I Made It.....2013 And A Day.

Older Daughter Jennifer, Husband Eric, and Grandson Nicholas hosted a New Year's P.J. party. We went at four and were home at seven. That's how exciting we are. Wanda and I welcomed 2013, asleep. We made it until ten o'clock.

A few weeks ago I mentioned my haircut and how I looked like a pineapple. While at the kid's I asked Nick to give me a buzz cut. I think he used the dog clippers but I like it. Wanda took a few pictures, they look terrible. The haircuts OK, it's the face I don't like. I'm convinced we have an evil gremlin living in the camera and it laughs at me.

Just take my word for it. The short hair looks good and the face, not so much.

Did we fall off the cliff, or not? One news person said, "Neither side was happy with the deal." The other added, "Isn't that the mark of a successful political negotiation?" My two cents, that's an awful way to conduct business. Maybe it's true? Maybe this has always been the way Washington and our policy makers have worked? I'm just naive enough to think making a deal where both sides are happy and satisfied would be a much better way to live.

I wonder what they do with returned 'snore guards'?

Wanda got me a new Sonicare Toothbrush. If you multi-task I highly recommend this product. It has a USB port so you can brush use the computer and charge the battery at the same time. I suggest you have screen wipes handy.

If you don't already know, Hugh Hefner, the 86 year old Playboy magazine owner got married on New Year's Eve. His 26 year old bride is a former Playmate Of the Month. The two were engaged in 2009 but she broke it off saying she didn't want people to think she was a gold-digger. Now, three years later, she doesn't care what people think. The newlywed couple had an intimate gathering for the late afternoon wedding at the Playboy Mansion. Following the ceremony the bride put the groom down for his nap.

Top resolutions for the new year are weight loss and healthy eating. Here are a few tips from the experts.

1. If you think of your meal as a light choice it can cause your brain to make more of the hormone ghrelin which signals your metabolism to slow down. You don't want slow metabolism so you should focus on the more indulgent parts of you meal, like the nuts or cheese on your salad, instead of the lettuce. In other words, don't think of your meal as a healthy choice, eat cottage cheese and think ice cream. Or eat a carrot and think a candy bar. So, if this works I guess you can just think thinner?

2. Studies show that people who pay the food bill with credit cards buy more junk food than people who pay with cash. You're more likely to get that box of cookies or candy, says a dietitian and food economist from the Journal of Consumer Research. So, leave the plastic at home and take cash to the grocery store. If you want this to work don't take more than ten or twenty dollars.

3. Do not even THINK about exercising! There's a downside to that, says a new French study: Simply thinking about exercise can cause you to eat 50% more. Why? People assume that the upcoming workout gives them license to snack. Avoid excessive munching with a pre-gym snack of no more than 150 calories, advises Keri Glassman, RD, author of "The Snack Factor Diet." Try two slices of turkey with whole-grain crackers. So, if I THINK about exercising I'll eat more, what if I NEVER think about it, will I loose weight? And who the Hell snacks on turkey? You eat turkey, you snack on cookies.

4. Do You sit at a desk and stare at a computer monitor all day? Sitting for just a few hours can cause your body to stop producing a fat inhibiting enzyme called lipase. Stand and stretch every hour and you'll boost your metabolism (again with the metabolism) by about 13% according to research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Or, better than stretching, fidget all day. Tap your feet and bounce up and down in your chair, wave your arms around and increase calorie burn by 54%. Just be careful, you may get fired for excessive weirdness.

5. Be sure to get enough sleep. Studies show lack of sleep is a contributing factor in weight gain. Well, of course it is.....when you're sleeping you can't eat. And if you can't sleep what do you do in the middle of the night? Eat.

I'm looking forward to another good year. I hope you'll stick around.
