You Know The Song Of Which I Speak.....

The day before yesterday, Saturday, was my birthday. Between texts, e-mail and e-cards, telephone and Facebook, I received good wishes from a few dozen friends and family members. I also got e-cards from five or six electronics manufactures, four cruise lines, a dozen retailers, two or three candy makers, a couple of airlines, and a movie studio or two. Between the birthday and Christmas my new message icon was very busy.

Electronic greetings are the future and I think it's fine.

The last two years we haven't sent Christmas cards. We let our friends know as best we could (it seemed silly sending a you're not getting an x-mas card card) the money saved on cards and stamps would be donated to The Animal Rescue Foundation.

I do have one complaint. With my oldest brother gone it would have been nice hear from other brother Allen. When he does remember I have a birthday in December, it's late. His call is something like this, "Sorry I forgot your birthday, it was the 22nd right? So, how old are you now? Don't tell me, let me guess, 40?" He's ten years older than me. One of these years he'll get it right.

The first text I got was from my friend Mark. He and I met in sixth grade, both new kids who felt somewhat out of place. Our friendship is now going on 53 years. We don't see each other often but I know he's there and he knows I'm here. His text message was exactly what I was thinking. Now we'll finally know the answer to, Will you still need me, will you still feed me?

WHEN I'M SIXTY FOUR.

From the Sgt. Pepper album by the Beatles it was released in 1967. I was eighteen the summer of '67. If I'd have known then what I know now, as the expression goes, I would have taken better care of myself.

I don't think the blog will run on schedule over the next week. Between Christmas, New Year's, and the bowl games, I'm going to be busy.
