I'm Not Ready, OK?.....

Some of today's entry is about 12-21-12. I should be writing it tomorrow but since I don't post on Friday, here it is. Besides, if the world does end tomorrow no one will be here to read it anyway.

This Mayan thing sneaked right up on me. I remember hearing about it several years ago, it's tomorrow and I'm not ready. Honestly, if I had more time, I don't know what I would do anyway. Wasn't the 'Rapture' last year? I didn't prepare for that either. I might feel different if I was the only one leaving? But since we'll all be gone I'm not going to bother 'getting my affairs' in order.

Now, after all this concern, I see this.

A Chicago expert on the ancient Mayans said the belief that the world will end Dec. 21 of this year is based on a misunderstanding of the calendar.

Gary Feinman, curator of Mesoamerican anthropology with Chicago's Field Museum said Friday will mark the end of a 1,872,000-day cycle for the Mayan calendar, but there is no reason to expect the world to come to an end.

"There's really no basis for thinking we have to be worried about what will happen," Feinman said. "There's no Maya prophesy of doom. There's no idea the world will come to an end that we can find in studies of the Maya."

Feinman said the ancient Mayans also wrote down dates for events taking place after the calendar rolls over Dec. 21.

......December 31, All Hands On Deck For The Big New Year's Eve Bash. Calling All Mayans. Climb to the top of the center pyramid for a human sacrifice then watch the heads roll at the stroke of midnight. The festivities began at moonrise with dinner and dancing. Be there or be square. Reservations not required but please R.S.V.P to Gukumatz.

.....April 15, Don't forget it's tax time. If you need help contact Ichuk. Tonight will be the first progressive dinner of the spring. A list of huts is posted on the big guana tree, second from the left in the first row of the high grove. Admission is free but bring a dish to share. We still need Poc Chuc, Dog Snout Salsa, and Tortillas.

Now, see that? I don't think the Mayans would have gone to all that trouble if the world was ending. I'm not sure about the New Year Ball, I can't stay up so late, but that pot luck dinner sounds yummy.

Speaking of yummy.....doesn't this sound good?

Getting in on the hoopla over the pending end of the world as predicted by the ancient Mayan calendar.

Carl's Jr. this week unveiled a massive 21x21x21-inch hamburger that was painstakingly crafted by the gang in the fast-food giant's test kitchen in honor of the catastrophe predicted for Dec. 21.

"If it's not the end of the world, then it's definitely the end of your hunger," said a notice posted on Facebook along with a picture of the sandwich, which is made up of a dozen beef patties, 12 strips of bacon and equal number of cheese slices.

W.T.F.?....."You lived through the Mayan prediction. Now, see if you can live through this burger. Clogged arteries guaranteed, the heart attack in a bun."

I'm proud to say I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan.

A development firm is set to build an apartment complex out of empty shipping containers in Detroit.

The firm, Three Squared, is scheduled to start construction in December on a model unit and sales center where a 20-unit complex near Wayne State University will sit, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The $3.4 million project would stack empty containers four high, cut in windows and doors, install plumbing, stairways and heating, and add amenities such as balconies and landscaped patios.

The company CEO said, "Many people find the concept strange. Even last week I met with some investors and one of them said, 'I'd rather invest after you have one built.' I think part of it is education. People still have a stigma because they don't see the versatility in container construction."

Strange? The concept, strange? Not really. The alien visitors in the 2009 movie "District 9" lived in shipping containers. They had four arms and ate goop, strange? "Slumdog Millionaire", how about that? People lived in shipping containers at the city dump. Strange? Heck, at least these new builds will have toilets.

Ever noticed this? Rarely a day goes by without seeing something on the news about someone who "struck it rich." My whole life I've proclaimed a lack of desire for 'money.'

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy having a car and a roof over my head. I've never gone hungry and managed to keep my self clothed and warm. It's just that every once in a while, every so often, I read one of these stories and feel a little envious, and a little sad.

I think about how much fun it would be to help others out with my new found fortune. Buy the kids a house, pay for college or a new car. I'd love to make a sizable donation to the Animal Rescue Foundation. It would be wonderful to take the whole family on a cruise. I'd love to donate funds to my city. But to be frank, to be honest, it would be nice for me and Wanda. We could get a couple of new recliners and a nice coffee table.

How's this for a shocker?

Officials in Carson City, Nevada have declared a California woman the rightful owner of $7.4 million in gold coins found in the home of her late cousin.

The City Clerk-Recorder said a month's worth of genealogical research determined the woman was a first cousin and the only living relative of the man, who died in May.

The money is likely to be released around the middle of 2013.

The deceased man was discovered to have been keeping the 2,695 gold coins, some of which dated back to the 1880s, in boxes in his garage.

Other parties attempting to claim the coins included a Florida man who said he was a secret agent who suffered a head injury and only recently remembered he was related to him.

"Hello, yes, may I speak to the city clerk please? City Clerk? Thank you. I'm calling about the $7.4 million in coins, yes a-ha-em. Well, the reason is I was with the CIA, yes, the C-I-A, I'm sure you could call them and check. I just woke up after twenty years in a coma. No, this isn't a joke....."

"Fairy Tales can come true....it could happen to you.....if you're young at heart."
