It's July.....

Yes, it's July, already. What does this mean to me?

My best friend Bob Stone would be celebrating his 65Th birthday on Wednesday if he hadn't died thirty years ago. Also on Wednesday the 4Th Mr. Trucks our male tabby outside cat would spend his one day a year inside, if he wasn't in kitty heaven. He was, next to Steve and Ed, the most affectionate cat we have ever lived with.

Mr. Trucks, as friendly and loving as he was, wanted to live outside. We would bring him in, set him down, and he would make a bee line to the front door. But once a year, on July 4Th, he came in. He had a spot on the shelf in our closet where he would settle in amongst a couple of stuffed animals, very "E.T"-ish. Mr.Trucks would hang out for a day or two hiding from the commotion. Then he would go back out for another year.

I'm not sure if Independence Day or New Year's Eve is our least favorite holiday. There is a commonality with the two of them, noise. I'll never understand why people think fireworks and noisemakers are necessary? Wanda and I will be home all day and night. Home, with a fire extinguisher and garden hose handy.

As for the big beautiful professional fireworks, I love them. But, with the dire financial situation in many cities maybe the money would be better spent elsewhere? Like that's ever going to happen. So many things could be accomlished if "we" would be willing to give up a little. It seems no one does.

You may have seen this in the news today? A Detroit man was withdrawing cash from a Bank of America ATM machine that malfunctioned. He managed to accumulate 1.5 MILLION dollars using the bank as well as casino cash machines. After fifteen days the bank discovered the error and cancelled his card.

If you were the recipient of a glitch like this, what would you do with the windfall? I speak for Wanda. We would notify the bank and return it. It's not that we are so righteous and honest, it's because eventually the bank would find out and want their money back. Want to know what this guy did with the money?

He didn't take it to Switzerland or South America. He didn't buy a new car or a boat or a motor home or a motorcycle. He didn't make large donations to charity. He didn't give any to his relatives or take them on vacation. He didn't do any of these things. So, what did he do?

He pissed it all away gambling in the three Detroit casino's. At least he didn't do something stupid and spend it all in one place.

A Massachusetts man is facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon after throwing McDonald's French fries in the face of his 11-year-old stepdaughter.

He was having an argument with his wife inside their vehicle when the girl tried to diffuse the situation, which only made him more angry. He threw the fries, and his wife later called police.

Since the fries were hot and oily, it could be considered a weapon and thus a felony, police said.

At this time it hasn't been decided if he will be charged with multiple counts. The DA said, "It depends on how many of the fries were eaten prior to the incident. I want to make it clear the amount of salt on the fries has nothing to do with the assault charges."

A crackdown on underage drinking will soon be implemented in San Francisco. When the parents of a sixteen year old boy were informed their son had been drinking alcohol the night of his accident they began a campaign to require more supervision by city workers. The city workers in this case are bus drivers.

Apparently the new 'thing' are public bus parties. Groups meet on this mode of transportation and have fun on wheels. The issue and problem, as the parents see it, is the kids drink booze and no one seems to care. The parents think the bus drivers should be responsible for carding their kids.

Hey, exact change or you don't ride the bus, and, I need to see an I.D.

It's July, already. What does that mean to me?

Tomorrow, July 3Rd, is my niece's birthday. For the first time in forty to forty five years I am able to wish her a Happy Happy Day. The reason it's been so many years between greetings is a blog entry for another day. I think family bonds are very important parts of our lives. All families have issues and mine is no different. The blessing is, we have been able to put past years where they belong, in the depths of the closet.

It's July.....special days to come are: Older Daughter Jennifer and her Husband Eric celebrate a wedding anniversary on the 4Th. Younger Daughter Rebbeca's Husband Tim has a birthday on the 9Th. Older Brother Fred has a birthday on the 13Th. And the best of all, Niece Lisa celebrates her birthday on the 3Rd.

So I don't get too excited about all this, just to remind me with every happy day, with every grain of good fortune, with all the good times something always brings me back to reality, I have my colonoscopy on the 11Th.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's always something!

She said, "I have letters to mail."
He heard, I have lettuce toenails.

Maybe it's time for a pedicure, or a salad?
