I just discovered this old-ish news. Last night in a moment of weakness I turned on the news and heard about this potential new law
The following is what I have deciphered.
A San Francisco resident collected 12,000 signatures to get a measure on the November ballot. If passed it would make the circumcision of a minor in the city of San Francisco a misdemeanor. If convicted the "circumsizer" could face a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail.
Now, the California state assembly has something going too. Our state representatives have a bill that would make it clear that no local law can restrict the practice of circumcision.
Not wanting to be left out, a lawsuit has been filed by the Jewish Community Relations Council and Muslim individuals against the SF resident who collected the signatures and the S.F. Department of Elections. These organizations claim current state law already prevents local jurisdictions from restricting the practices of "healing arts professionals" which they say includes Jewish mohels (moi oils) aka circumsizers.
Our politicians say their bill is necessary because it's "an affirmation of what parents and doctors can do." One of the bills authors will be holding a press conference today. He claims it is of vital importance this bill goes through the legislative process quickly. It is critical the bill gets to the desk of our Governor in advance of the November elections.
If the anti-circumcision measure passed men could make their own decisions about circumcisions when they became adults. I have first hand knowledge.....maybe hand isn't the best word choice here? I am well aware of having a circumcised penis. I am not aware of having had the procedure. I would bet the farm there isn't a man alive that can describe having it done as a new born. I would also bet the farm that isn't a man alive that would look forward to having a circumcision as an adult.
So, we know there are at least 12,001 people in San Francisco who think city government should oversee penis foreskin. State politicians think they should oversee penis foreskin by over ruling the city penis foreskin rules. The J.C.R.C. and Muslims don't think any government group should oversee foreskins and furthermore they (the government bodies) should know they (the government bodies) already can not and do not oversee foreskins.
Have you ever wondered why so many things seem screwed up? Have you ever wondered why things don't seem to improve? I have, and I do, and now I have a better idea of why that is so. In part because we have people who should be focused on real problems discussing and arguing over penis tips.
Penis' for 200 please, Alex.........A Father A Mother A Doctor........Who are the only three people who should be allowed to make any decisions about a newborns foreskin.
Several months ago I was talking to my cousin Lynne in San Diego. Later that evening she was going to see a film, "The King's Speech." I was not familiar with the movie then and I thought she was saying "The King's Feet." I have mentioned this before but wanted to update. At the time I didn't ask her to clarify the movie name because part of our conversation was about hearing loss.
Lynne told me theaters have hearing help devices available. They were headphones with electronic pick ups for the movie dialog and sound. She said they were comfortable and easy to use. I said I would try a pair the next time we went out. Beside hearing loss, getting old also means memory loss. We went to see Harry Potter last Friday and of course, I forgot. I did remember about half way through and told Wanda, next time.
The Potter movie was very elaborate and we missed a lot. We decided to go again Sunday. Upon leaving the theater Friday we discovered two other movie presentations. The film was also showing in 3D and XD and I asked for a description of XD. We were told it's digital, the seats are leather and larger as is the screen. Well, not leather but larger. The sound is louder with more speakers, more detailed. The tickets are four dollars more, per person.
Wanda and I decided to try the XD presentation. We went into the theater got our seats and settled in. As advertised, the seats were very nice. I couldn't tell if the screen was larger and I forgot about the headphones, again. During the many trailers Wanda went out and returned with a pair. OK, actually not a pair since it was one. They were comfortable with a small receiving unit on top and a volume control on the side. Now I had a real dilemma.
We paid a total of eight bucks more so I wanted to experience XD sound. But, if I wore the headphones I would hear the same as a "regular" theater. I would probably hear more sound without the headphones. I would probably hear less sound but more words with them. I thought dialog was more important than explosions and special effects. I decided to wear the headphones, I could always take them off. I waited until the movie started. put them on, and they didn't work.
This is a good example, albeit a rather inconsequential one, of why stressing over decisions, small or large, isn't healthy and sometimes doesn't matter. Sometimes the outcome you want doesn't come to fruition and circumstances dictate what happens. This is just fine for headphones but circumcisions should never have circumstances. And any government body should keep it's nose away from and out of penises.
