Is it safe to drink the water?

While in Michigan last year I registered a Starbucks card. Once you have a certain number of coffee credits you "earn" free drinks. Also, as a card member Starbucks occasionally sends out perks, no pun intended . I've received free samples of desserts, breakfast items, and specialty coffee. The main benefit is a free drink after fifteen purchased.

My usual drink is a $3.85 latte. I spend $57.75 before I qualify for the "free" drink. Add the freebie to the amount spent and the per drink charge drops to $3.60, a savings of almost 25 cents a coffee. Now, that's a bargain.

The "free" drink can be any type and size. As I said, I always order the medium drink which is 16 ounces with 2 shots of espresso. The venti or large drink is 20 ounces, more milk, but the same amount of espresso.

When I request my free drink I feel funny if I order something larger and more expensive than my usual. I know it's silly but I think I'm asking for something I am not really entitled to.

Another Starbucks card holder benefit are coffee and tea refills, hot or iced.

We know someone who will order a large iced coffee, leave to go shopping, or even go home, and return later for a refill. He has gone so far as to get one refill and later a second to take home to his wife.

Is there a point to this story, sure, how do you feel about this? I guess it's no surprise that I think it's tacky. Just because you can get something for nothing doesn't mean you should. Would things be better if everyone was satisfied just to have what they need?

Or am I, once again, being naive thinking this way?

I recently had a water issue. It goes with the coffee subject. I was about to brew a morning latte when I realized the water in the espresso maker was a day old. So, I removed the reservoir, poured the water into a potted plant, and refilled it from the Crystal Geyser gallon on the kitchen counter.

The use by date on the Crystal Geyser is 7-11-13.
