Another, maybe it's me? A few weeks ago the Oakland Athletics Baseball Club hosted Jewish Heritage Night. Often on these special nights the team gives away t-shirts, or pins, bobble head dolls and the like. This night the first ten thousand received an Oakland A's Yamaka. I'm sure if the give-a-way was "The First Ten Thousand JEWISH Fans" someone would have filed a discrimination law suit.
Do the Oakland A's even have ten thousand Jewish fans? Now I'm wondering where it would be appropriate to wear a Yamaka with an embossed A's logo? Would it be disrespectful to do the wave during services? "Ya, way to go, high five for the Rabbi." Woo-who.
I remember reading the book review for, "Jewish Sport Hero's."......the review: The book is interesting and very short.
This morning I got a message from an old friend and neighbor. We connected on Face Book a few days ago, hadn't "talked" since we were thirteen or fourteen. We lived in a two family flat, we were in the upper. In the e mail, she said she came upstairs for something and I answered the door in my pj's. A mutual friend was there, maybe he slept over? While we were talking he got behind me and pulled down my pants. It sounds like something that guy would do. She said I was her "first penis."
She was "freaked out" and turned around, quickly, and ran back downstairs. I read this to Wanda and couldn't stop laughing. I think it's an honor, to be someones first anything. Poor kid, I was probably a lousy example. I can only guess at what she said when eventually she was intimate with someone, "Oh, so that's what they look like." I guess I could have handed her a magnifying glass?
While editing this I had a thought.....Wanda told me a pregnant fourteen year old was in the office the other day. No doubt, things have really changed since 1962. For better, or worse?
I have a favor to ask of you dear readers. First, please, please continue leaving the comments as I really appreciate them. Second, please leave your name if you are listed as annon-e-mouse. Third, if you really, really don't want to leave your name.....I would rather hear from you a-non-a-mouse-lee than not at all.
Speaking of comments, Andi.....thanks for the message on Thursday. No pressure here, at all, none, zero, zilch, nada.
Our very good friend Debbie has worked her last. She is now and will always be, retired. We met Debbie and her husband Jeff on a cruise in October 2004. Over the last seven years we have sailed on two other ships together. Debbie was our tour guide when we were in New York a few years ago. We "talk" every day on our message board and we have been counting the days along with her. Debbie is now retired. Strange word, re-tired. Seems like it should mean, tired again.
Or, she got tires for the car a second time.
Congratulations Debbie, may your retirement never find you tired.

Did you know that prior to 1967 Memorial Day was called Decoration Day? It was a day to remember the soldiers who died in the Civil War. It now is a day to honor all who have died in service to the United States. Many think that the somber observance was lost once the day was moved from May 30th. The holiday observance act of 1971 moved it to a three day week end.
Observe in your own way, have a good three day week end.
