Thursday is our Friday.........

I have a very large spot in my head, heart, and stomach for much of the daily "news." For a better description of my feelings, add the word ache to the three body parts. I know, I know, every day the same thing, bitch, bitch, bitch, complain, complain, complain. It's beautiful outside. It may be nice to read something that would match the day, sunny. Sorry, it's not going to happen.

All week we have been seeing news and reading about the devastation in the mid west. In Joplin, Missouri two hundred and thirty people are still missing four days after the tornado. Hail storms, tornado's, flooding in some places, drought in others. People need to read something else, a diversion. How about this?

Other than what I see on my Comcastian home page I know little about the Kardashian family. The news of the day has Kim getting married. Her engagement ring is a 16.5 plus carat diamond valued at two million dollars. According to the news, pictures of her wedding should be worth over three million dollars. I read this family, and especially Kim, has world wide exposure and fans. I must be missing something.

Is it fair to ask if they are doing anything to help mankind? A lot of money will be spent on the wedding. It be nice if a small percentage actually did some good. The thanks and appreciation would probably last a lot longer than the marriage.

I always have a hard time letting the phone ring. It's because I grew up without message machines and the like. We have caller ID on both the phone and the TV screen. Earlier, the phone started ringing, I glanced at the screen and saw, 800 Service.

I don't know if I can describe what I did as "answering the phone" because, I didn't. What I did was push the answer button. Now we had a tennis match, or more my speed, a ping pong game. Their turn, so I waited to hear something and heard, silence. Now, I'm not sure if hearing silence is hearing anything so I said, "hello" and heard, or didn't hear, nothing.

I'm probably developing a reputation as a curmudgeon which is actually not bad. I always thought this was a cantankerous, complainer, an old guy that dislikes man, and woman, kind. The definition is a dislike of mankind's absurdities. Like a two million dollar ring. Or a fifty million dollar wedding. Or, someone that calls me and has nothing to say.

If you call me by mistake have the decency to say "I'm sorry." You may be interrupting my dinner or concentration. It's not too much to ask. And, please, do not call using an auto dialer. It's rude to have a machine call and ask me to wait. Never say, "Hello Mr. Shulak, how are you today?" as if you care. I know you don't because when I tell you I have something horrible you say "good" and continue with the script. If you insist on calling me expect to get interrupted at least twice before I hang up on you.

Here is how we could save time and aggravation. Pay attention to the "do not send" list. Pay attention to the "do not call" list. Pay attention to the "do not contact" list. It would be much easier if we had a "please call" or "please contact" or "please send" list. We don't want anything, we don't do anything. That would be something I could remember, or not.

I don't know why I bother with a shopping list. I always forgot to look at it. Earlier this morning I went to Safeway for avocado, yogurt, Kefir, which is a yogurt smoothie like drink, and bananas. I came home with yogurt, Kefir, avocado, and mint cookies in one small reusable Trader Joe's bag. I remembered the banana ten minutes after I got home. The untouched list still in my pocket.

On Face Book two days ago I made contact with someone I haven't seen, or talked to, in almost fifty years. I "liked" a page about my "old neighborhood" in Detroit. From that page I "friended" a few people. We occasionally comment on something or they read the blog. Most days I read what they are doing, or playing, or thinking about, and say a silent hello. It's nice to "see" old and new friends every day.

I usually post Monday through Thursday and Saturday. I think people are enjoying the blog, that's why I write. If it was only for me I could save a lot of
time and just think it.
