A walk downstairs

He did it. Chris the Physical Therapist was here just before noon. Fred was aware today was going to be the downstairs day, and he did it. He came down, sat for a few minutes then walked back up. He then sat at the desk for a while, had a snack, took a short nap and got back to the desk. Around 2:30 he took a thirty minute nap and has been up watching TV since. It was too early for dinner so I made him a ham and cheese on toast with extra mayo for a pre dinner meal. He should be eating lots of salt and potassium so he got potato chips as well. So far it's been a pretty productive day for him with a little more work planned this evening. We only have five days left until I go back to Harriet and Paul's.

I also had a pretty good day. I was up at 5AM with absolutely nothing to do. I suppose I should stop sleeping in my clothes. I could kill a little more time if I needed to get dressed in the morning. With this weather I know I wouldn't be going out for coffee in my PJ's. While I was pacing around watching the clock I remembered the latte Fred didn't drink yesterday. It was in the fridge.....woo who I thought as I bounded (do deer's do that?) up the Dungeon stairs to the kitchen. I got that latte, put it in the microwave for a couple of minutes, reached in and burnt the heck out of my hand. Add the strange microwave to my growing list of other peoples stuff I can't operate properly. By the time I finished the latte the local Caribou was open so I went up there for a real drink.

I got Fred up around 9 o'clock this morning. I'd heard him up walking around a little after 5 so thought I would let him sleep a little later. I also wanted him fresh for his trip down the stairs. I just realized using trip and down the stairs together isn't really good. I hope I don't have some deep seated physiological issue with him. I gave him his choice for breakfast with him asking for cold cereal. I told him he would eat plenty of that when I left so how about something hot? He asked if I could make another of those "really good omelettes," so I did. Fried potato, sausage, Munster and Havarti cheese. He thinks these are terrific, probably because all the cheese melts into a great big blob of goop. I have been making these basically the same way since a friend taught me how in 1973.

Grill any meat or potato first, pour in lightly beaten eggs, let set up for a minute then, using a fork lift the edges tittling the pan while pouring egg over and under the edge. You do this quickly all around the pan so you end up with a light, fluffy, multi layered omelet. If using cheese add it on top a minute or so before the egg sets up. It takes some practice but practice makes perfect.

Speaking of practice, how do you figure this guy got these quantities right? I went up to the Starbucks this afternoon. The fellow in line in front of me asked for a cold drink of some type. They use clear plastic cups for the cold beverages. He said something to the Barista' that caused her to hold the cup up to him. He pointed to a level and asked for the carmel syrup to there, then another line for the coffee and another for the milk. That was a first for me and all I could think of was how the heck did he figure that out? I wonder, did he sit at home ruining many drinks as he practiced? Maybe once upon a time he worked at a Starbucks so practiced at work. He also told her what he pays for the drink. Tomorrow I am going to give it a try for my vente', non fat latte with two Splenda's. I think I shall tell her I pay a dollar ninety five.
