A close shave

It's very slippery on snow and ice at 5:30AM when it's 20 degrees. My friendly workers at the Caribou Coffee place greeting me this morning with, "I bet you're ready to go home?" All I could do was nod in agreement. I did not speak since I was conserving my energy trying to stay warm. I think the worst thing about this weather is excess clothing. All the stuff you wear outside then in to the car, then outside, then in to a store. I can not get used to that. I don't know when to leave things on and when to take them off? Also, pumping gas is a bitch. The sun was shinning this afternoon so I figured I would fill up. Even if the sun is shinning, the wind still blows and it is c-o-l-d. I sign in on my home page and it's 62 at home, now that is livable.

Today was a good one, so far. We had a visit from Carol the ostomy nurse and also from a Beaumont social worker. Carol changed his appliance, the last one held for three days. She also answered lots of his questions. There is so much information to try and retain she will probably need to do this each time here. The social worker talked to Fred about services that are available here in the area. Rides to appointments, folks that come in for light housekeeping, shopping, cooking etc. It was a productive day. Fred is working harder at regaining his endurance. Tomorrow Chris the Physical Therapist is going to get him downstairs, we hope.

One of the things I need to teach Fred about is his cable television. If you have Comcast you probably know about On Demand. Last night he talked about going to pick up a DVD at Blockbuster. Does anyone still do that? On Demand had 180 free movies, I was not about to go out in this weather.

Fred is currently in the "little boys room" attending to some grooming needs. He is in there shaving. I thought I took all the sharp objects away from him but must have missed the razors.

I brought him a vanilla latte from my Starbucks run a while ago. He took a sip, I have it in the fridge. I'm wondering if my system can handle another jolt of espresso after I finish this one? I've already cleaned the house from the Dungeon to the top floor, the floors and the fridge. I guess I could do a load of laundry?

I went to the local Kroger grocery store a few hours ago. Now I should go take a look at what I bought and start thinking about dinner. Half of that pot pie is left. I did make breakfast and lunch I think I deserve a break.

Just remembered this. This afternoon when the social worker was here he asked me to move this pot like can thing with dry flowers in it. It sits on the floor, I moved it the other day and it was "off the ring in the carpet." Also, I made him a tuna on toast for lunch. I mentioned he likes "goop" on everything. I slathered the toast with mayo and also put lots of mayo in the tuna. I probably used more mayo for this lunch than Wanda and I use in a month. He took a bite of the tuna and asked me if I would bring him more mayo, which I did. I put a couple of globs in a shot glass and brought it up. I was watching him, he finished the sandwich, was talking to the social worker and very nonchalantly picked up his butter knife, stuck the blade into the mayo and ATE IT. Now I am wondering just how in the Hell he has managed to live this long.
