I did it again, wrote the title first. I was trying to decide, HAPPY BIRTHDAY WANDA or Trash Day Thursday. Since Trash Day Thursday here is Friday it was a relatively easy decision.
Speaking of relatively, Aunt Lee. I was thinking of driving out to see her and pick up all the Fred food. I was just plain tired so will go sometime over the next few days. Aunt Lee told me she was doing some shopping the other day and a man struck up a conversation with her. After a few minutes of "you look familiar" he asked her out for lunch. Not too bad for a 95 year old broad, er......lady. She politely declined. She didn't tell him but told me, she thought he was too young for her!
Fred had his first visit with the Home Health Aid just about an hour ago. Her name is Gladys and I give her a ton of credit. She is a itty bitty lady but knows her stuff. She comes into the home and helps the patient shower or take a bath. I don't think I could do that and last I looked, I'm a guy. The services through the hospital are terrific. Fred will have a total of six different workers here at home during his recovery. It's been a great help to me as well.
When I get home I will post some of my "She said" "He heard" notes. It's always me who misses the meanings. Things have progressed to the point of my use of subtitles (or captioning) when I'm watching movies on TV. I use Wanda sleeping as an excuse since I don't want to turn the sound up. Truth be told, I can't hear very well. That, or the rest of the world mumbles. Anyhow, it was Wanda this morning on the phone. I said, "Say hello to the cat." She heard, "Salmon and a cat." I bet the cat would much rather have had the fish. By the way, a small can of tuna has 12 grams of protein. Fred should be eating 80 grams a day, protein, not tuna. This is difficult when one pancake or a half piece of french toast is all he can eat, at least for now.
I thought I would take advantage of Gladys' visit and do the dishes and laundry. Or, at least get it started. Fred remodeled his kitchen a few year ago and has a dishwasher that was made in Sweden of all places. I'm dealing with a door that will not stay down (open) and a top drawer that will not stay in. I need to lean my knee on the door and my elbow on the drawer while trying to figure out what goes where, and why. This thing also has electronic sensors for the various wash cycles. All you need to do is look at them a little too long, they light up and want to begin a wash cycle. He doesn't know how or where to find the off switch.
Chris the Physical Therapist just arrived. I think maybe it's time for me to get the laundry in the dryer. I forgot to mention breakfast.....breakfast. I made scrambled eggs with cheese globed into them. Fred needs to eat goop on damn near everything. Mayo, sour cream, gravy, melted cheese, butter, jelly etc. I made him a PB&J sandwich as he asked for it, must have weighed two pounds. This morning he told me I would need to tell (show) him how to make pancakes before I leave. I told him there was a box of Krusteze in the pantry (I bought it). It's pretty difficult, take 1 cup of dry stuff, mix in 3/4 cup of water and mix. I was reminded of my Aunt Belle who taught me how to make them. She told me not to press down on them just after I flipped them over. She said, "you're not making burgers, they're pancakes, don't smash them down." She was a GREAT cook and a wonderful teacher.
In closing for the morning I again want to say a Happy Day to Wanda. For the next 12 days we'll be the same age, how about that!
