This Is News?

I watched the smiling, overly made-up, bejeweled anchor deliver (with a straight face) the morning news. "AAA reports gasoline prices have set a new record. Today marks the 1000th day the average price of gas is over $3 a gallon."

Well, isn't that nice! Why are they bothering to count? Gallon prices will ever again see the downside of $3. Then she added, "But the good news is the average price is under $4." .....well, now I'm happy as hell.

Just when you thought it couldn't get more ridiculous, disgusting and absurd (sounds like a law firm). This is older news but I read it today.

Nidal Malik Hasan the Army psychiatrist who killed 13 and injured 32 at Fort Hood in July 2011 has received approximately $300,000.00 in salary while awaiting trail. The Military Code of Justice states he is innocent until proven guilty. So, he sits in jail and collects his pay.

Meanwhile the people he shot do not qualify for assistance because this aggression was considered "workplace violence" rather than combat related.

This is a real lesson in cooperation (he writes sarcastically).

U.S. Air Force official Steve Mayer is plowing ahead with plans at the old McClellan Air Force Base to entomb soil contaminated with radium-226, a glow-in-the-dark substance that can cause cancer, and pass ownership of it to the city of Sacramento.

The California Department of Public Health has made it clear that state laws don't permit the move. Even if they did, Sacramento's city manager says he wants nothing to do with the dump.

But Mayer's playing the long game. By 2019, when the military wants to hand over the arena-sized dump to the city, he's hoping he won't have to deal with the current crop of state regulators and city officials balking at his plans.

"There will be a different governor then, too, and (regulators) all work for the governor," said Mayer, the Air Force's remediation program manager for McClellan.

Mayer's attitude about state and local officials, and his insistence that the Air Force can bulldoze ahead despite the state's strict environmental laws, highlights an escalating clash between military officials and local communities over the plight of former bases now being converted for civilian use.

In a case that could affect bases around the state, the Air Force is burying radioactive waste on the site it supposedly is cleaning up, bypassing state environmental regulations because it is on federal land. The state regulators aren't warning of a health risk to the surrounding neighborhood. But by pushing through the unwanted dump, the Air Force might create a precedent for other places where military agencies wish to avoid costly out-of-state hauling fees.

At McClellan, Mayer said the objections won't stand in the military's way. "They have their right to their opinion, and we have ours," Mayer said. "We'll continue to go forward with our plans."

And I thought the people of this world would eventually realize the importance of cooperation and start to do what's right for all. Just call me Naive Nelson.

Entertainment news?

Britney Spears signed a two-year contract to play 50 shows a year at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. She will earn $310,000,00 per show, or about $15 million per year...."Gas prices?....What, me worry? Someone will drive me to the shows."

Tickets are priced between $66.50 and $194 with a $7.50 to $15 service charge.

This next story is beneath my standards but it truly pisses me off.

Twitter....it's communication for twits.

Jaden Smith, the 15-year-old son of Will and Jada has taken it upon himself to suggest and tweet the following (I'm paraphrasing because his grammar is so bad).

School is the tool to brainwash youth. If everyone in the world dropped out, we would have a much more intelligent society. So everybody get off your phones and go do what you actually wanna (wanna....that's his) do.

"People Use To Ask Me What Do You Wanna Be When You Get Older And I Would Say What A Stupid Question The Real Question Is What Am I Right Now," the Karate Kid star began. He continued: "All The Rules In This World Were Made By Someone No Smarter Than You. So Make Your Own."
"Education Is Rebellion. If Newborn Babies Could Speak They Would Be The Most Intelligent Beings On Planet Earth."
His father said, "We treat our kids as if they were adults. We would never tell a grown man to clean his room, so we don't tell our children to clean their room."
Now that's parenting. They really do move to a different drummer.
I'm sorry if the blog today is reflective of my slightly negative feelings. I'm getting really tired of mass shootings.
