Digging For Fun and Profit.....

Like many of my brethren I love a good gangster movie. I can quote most of the Godfather films. I am happy I can amuse you (Goodfellows). I know Tommy "Two-Times" is going to get the paper. I know Mickey "Blue Eyes" and "Donnie Brasco." I've seen every film from Cagney, Bogart and Robinson to DeNiro, Pesci, and Palminteri. The other night I watched part of "Casino" for the umpteenth time. I think the union boss Andi Stone (Alan King) was a broad stroke of Jimmy Hoffa.

Jimmy Hoffa? Maybe it's because he was last seen at a suburban Detroit restaurant parking lot? Maybe it's because I have seen the Jack Nicholson portrayal of Hoffa? Maybe it's because I think the world should know the true story? Or, maybe it's because I think it's kind of comical after all these years? Whatever the reason, they're at it again.

Underneath Giants Stadium isn't good enough?

On the word of an 85-year-old gangster, the FBI broke out the digging equipment, once again. Looking under a slab of concrete in a field in Oakland Township, Michigan authorities are searching for the 40-year-old remains of Jimmy Hoffa.

Tony Zerilli, 85, told Detroit television station WDIV that he knew the location of the Hoffa remains. His lawyer said Zerilli was "thrilled" that investigators were acting on that information. As of today nothing has been found, turned up or uncovered. But they're still looking, why? The man hasn't been seen since I was in my twenties. What's the point? What are they going to say when and if his bones see the light of day?

Ladies and Gentlemen, after several days of excavation we have discovered what we believe to be the remains of Teamster President Jimmy Hoffa. DNA testing will be done for positive identification, however, at the point I will say, Mr. Hoffa, it appears, is dead.

Here are several natural remedies health care professionals recommend.

Reduce Wrinkles With Seafood: Eat six ounces of fish three times a week. Fish is packed with proteins, minerals and omega-3-fats. These nutrients nourish the collagen and muscles that keep skin smooth. Can't cook that often? Eat 18 ounces of fish once each week. Don't like fish? Place a large piece of fish (salmon is best) over your face and lounge in the sun for ninety minutes. Do not cut eye holes in the skin.

Fight Fatigue and Exercise With Green Tea: Loaded with compounds that help blood sugar fuel and stimulate the production of energizing hormones called endorphins, try sipping green tea all day. Use the bathroom on the lower or upper floor and take the stairs.

Heal Injuries With Music: Patients who listened to one hour of soothing music daily recovered from injuries faster than non listeners. They also required 25 percent fewer painkillers. Music lowers the production of stress hormones. Complete healing was 35 percent faster when patients took extra painkillers and listened to Gregorian chants.

Kill Viruses With Honey: Packed with natural antibiotics and healing enzymes eating unpasteurized honey can cut days off your sickness. It also kills bugs that cause sinus infections and other cold complications. Harvesting the honey can be problematic so leave that to the experts. While I give this advice I wonder, if this is so good for you, how come bees only live about 42 days?

Dark Chocolate: Compounds that relax and open the arteries that send oxygen rich blood to the brain increases memory, concentration and focus. The trade off is much of today's chocolate is loaded with sugar. So, you've got to eat the good stuff. I recommend Rogers'.

Improve Memory With Turmeric: What? When is the last time you used turmeric? The Journal of Neurochemistry suggests adding this to your diet could sharpen your memory 30 percent or more. Use 1/4 teaspoon four times a week and you can, at least, remember why you bought it.

You can make yourself nuts trying all the different "help" suggestions. Fish and fish oil, niacin, cinnamon and turmeric. Eat fruit, don't eat fruit. Stay awake? No, take a nap. Eat nuts, but not too many. Eat veggies and greens and eggs, but only three. Chicken is good but only free range. Watch your dairy and drink lots of water. Do not eat white flour. Use sugar substitute but now they say that may cause cancer.

When I was working every so often the department would get slammed. It was so busy I'd start to panic. What do I do first? There is a saying in ER nursing; when faced with a true emergency the first thing you do is take your own pulse. Take a breath, and focus. I didn't have the luxury of eating dark chocolate. Most nights I was running a fumes.

I now have the time to try many healthful and helpful suggestions. Maybe I will? For now I'll continue to get thirty minutes of exercise a day and I'll watch what I eat. Or, what I eat will watch me.
