Still under the weather....

Speaking of the weather, the morning weather report was no rain in sight for the remainder of the month. Someone needs new glasses, it's raining now. It's very light but the ground is getting wet and it needs it.

Hey, do you want to play the shopping game with me? I went to Safeway early this morning. I'm feeling lousy and before I got too tired I wanted to pick up a few things. OK now, get your pens or pencils out and your thinking caps on.

I paid $21.21 with tax. Safeway listed the regular price @ $38.06. I got a $17.03 discount for having a Club Card and an additional $3.00 off for the 'Just 4 U' purchases. The receipt claims I saved 49%.

Last night I read an article about the new pricing policy at J.C. Penny. For the last several years the chain has had one sale after another. Mailers go out with various deals. Wanda and I got so many last year most went directly into the shredder.

Speaking of the shredder. Over the last couple of months I've accumulated three large envelops stuffed with paperwork for a Chase United Mileage Plus credit card. It's free the first year then has a $95 yearly charge. I greeted each of these with disdain and not one iota of interest. "I have got to call them and get off this mailing list" as I took the mailers to the shredder. I finally called this morning.

I had three card offers, the United Airline and Chase web sites, and it still took 45 minutes to find a real phone number. I found a half dozen for applications or card status. They make it so easy to apply for the damn things, don't they? When I finally spoke with someone she told me it would probably be ninety days before I was off the mailing list, 90 DAYS. I can get a card in 14.

Back to Penney's. As of next month the chain will implement one price discount shopping. They will mark down everything an average of 40%. Now the 'business' community is wondering if net profits will fall? Are people smart enough to see through those old Sale prices? Only time will tell.

Politics.....go, run and hide. Newt Gingrich made a statement that he would see a colony on the moon by 2020 if he is elected president. The net worth of the guy is estimated to be between 6 and 30 million dollars. Is he going to pay for some of this? How about we concentrate on putting food on the table for all Americans? How about health care? How about real Social Security?

The Moon? How about we take care of business here first!

Sorry if this has a bitchy tone today. I don't want you to think I'm complaining but I do feel like crap. I will be the first to admit to having a very low tolerance for the yucks. I truly think that women are much tougher than men when pain or illness rears it's ugly head. I am not a very good patient.
