Just shave it all off, please

I'm asking a favor of everyone reading this. Please, if you post anonymous comments let me know who, or at least, where you are. I get several notifications every week from old posts. I have no way to track them.

Do you know what yesterday was? November 22 is one month until my birthday. It's also forty eight years since a bullet took the life of President John F. Kennedy. I was fourteen years old and attending Hampton Jr. High. In shop class when the news filtered down to the students around two in the afternoon, we were dismissed for the day.

The halls of the school were crowded with students and staff. The information we had was fragmented. All we knew for sure was JFK had been killed in Dallas, Texas. It was a Friday and it would be a very long week end. This horrific assassination was, I think, the first blanket covered news event in television history.

I stayed home that Saturday and Sunday glued to the TV with Viola and my mother. I saw Jack Ruby shoot Oswald when it happened, live.

Two years from now will be the fifteenth anniversary of Kennedy's death. I bet the news people have lots planned for that.

I went up to pick up a few things at Safeway this morning. There was very little traffic on the roads, the store was quiet. There is a fellow who hangs around the area where the shopping carts live. I think he is homeless?

Shopping carts always get stuck together when pushed inside each other. That's the best way I can explain it. The guy always helps get the carts unstuck.....I wonder if throwing water on them would do it? He also offers help out to your car. He has been hanging out in the same spot for well over a year. Did I say I think he is homeless?

Then again, he may have a few million bucks in the bank? To watch and talk to him you wouldn't know which. This guy, who is essentially asking for food or food money, always has a smile and a kind word. He is the same with people who give and people who don't. Whatever he has inside that helps him cope should be bottled. I always try to give him something, holiday or not.

Today after I slipped him a buck and was almost at my car he yelled out, "Don't get fat eating and sitting on the couch watching football tomorrow."

Did I mention we are going somewhere that has no televisions?

In Ohio several men in an Amish group were arrested for forcing others to shave and get haircuts. Actually they did the haircutting. It seems one guy didn't like the way he was treated so he took some Amish and left. He then formed his own group. He said the goal of the hair-cutting was to send a message to Amish in a different county (the one that he left) that they should be ashamed of themselves for the way they were treating him and his community.

By the way this Amish leader giving the haircuts.....his name is Mullet.

Happy Thanksgiving.
