I'm waiting for the tree man......

I'm sitting here waiting for one tree man to come over and another one to call. It seems like cutting down and removing a tree is wrong, but, this is a terrible tree. Years ago it was an apricot tree and produced a large amount of delicious fruit. Then maybe five or six years ago it morphed into the fruit tree from Hell. The apricots were replaced by small bitter cherry/plum like things. The bark oozed sap and the branches attracted all the ants in our neighborhood. We lived with the tree because it did provide lots of shade in the backyard. Now, it's time to go.

When we had dinner at the kids Sunday night our son in law suggested we have Nick come over and take the tree down. While there are many tasks I would trust to our grandson there is something about a large tree, a chainsaw, and a sixteen year old boy I would rather not be a party to. I'm probably being silly? I well remember Nick climbing up a much larger tree and sitting on the platform that was to become the floor of his tree house. He was about five at the time.

So, here I sit at 10:30 waiting for the "between nine and eleven" guy to show up. And, maybe the "I'll call you at ten" man will actually call? Just to keep you informed the nine to eleven guy just called, it will be after eleven thirty, "is that OK?" Crap, I had planned on going to the early morning opera. I guess that's out.

By the way, the replacement Blu-Ray was fine. We watched about 3/4 of the movie last night and passed the trouble spot with out incident.

It's nine days before Thanksgiving and I saw my first "buy a car for Christmas" commercial yesterday. Do people actually do that? I've always thought buying gifts for significant others was ridiculous. Two people live together, especially if married, isn't the money, theirs?

I remember the first holiday my older brother and his wife celebrated. She wasn't working which was fine, but, holiday shopping using credit cards was a very an odd concept to a nine year old. I guess it takes a kid to say, "but don't you pay the bill?"

Wanda and I usually talk about something we need or would like when Christmas rolls around. We both have birthday's in December so it's a good month to do something special. This year we decided to donate to a local food bank and a toy collection. Honestly, all the things we could think of for us or the house, we can live without.

Sharing with others is truly the spirit of the season.
