Yesterday, Monday, I was a little depressed. I thought it best to keep quiet. Now that it's Take Out The Trash Tuesday I can write about it.
Do you think there is some law or rule that we don't know about? Do you think some "power" makes it so we must have something terrible to think about? Is it necessary to try and make some of us miserable every freaking day of the year? I'm beginning to think so, and, I'm sick of it.
In 1984, the est training was fairly popular (there are several copyrighted articles on est and Werner Erhard so I will not link them but if interested do a search) and in October I did a seminar. Through est, "I got it" which is the catch phrase or point of the two week end presentation. Put another way,"this is it" , life is what you see and what you get. It was an interesting endeavor and I'm glad I did it. From time to time I remember the events and lessons of 27 years ago.
Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff. Yes, we've all heard that and it's basically true. But, it seems like it's getting more difficult to face the news and come out smiling, each and every day.
Is there a group of people somewhere sitting around thinking of ways to make us miserable? Or, is it just one guy in Akron, Ohio? I would love to know. I would like to hit him in the face with a shaving cream pie, banana cream would be much too good. Or, to take a line from Woody Allen, hit him in the mouth with a sweat sock filled with horse manure.
For many weeks all we read and heard about was the budget and the borrowing limit. Gloom and Doom was predicted if an agreement was not reached by August 2nd. "The market will crash, the market will crash" the little chickens yelled. As for me, I have made no secret of my lack of understanding about all this financial maneuvering. All I could do was wait and hope those in Washington wouldn't let my meager savings dwindle to dust.
"They did it, they did it, it's done." They said, "hooray for all of us." " Financial ruin has been averted." We all can breathe a big sigh of relief.
About a week later a group of people decide the agreement the politicians made isn't good enough. What? They were joking? they lied? They didn't do enough? So, this thing we were waiting for, this agreement, didn't mean a damn thing? This group of people, based on what they know, or think, downgraded the countries ability to pay back borrowed funds.....and the next few days the stock market went to Hell in a hand basket.
Isn't that what all the hoop-la was tyring to avoid?
Then today the first thing I spot on our Comcastian Home Page: Gold Hits $1,778 an ounce. See what they do here. First they give us something to worry about. Then they tell us it's all better. They allow us a couple of days before once again giving us something to worry about.
And then they remind us the investments we don't have are worth a small fortune. Damn, I shoulda' bought gold when it was one eighty an ounce.
The best thing to do, in my humble opinion, is to go back to that week end in Michigan in October of 1984. I should remember "It is" and stop thinking about what It isn't.
Here is something that is, a full box of Waterfront Bistro Crab Rangoon. Wanda has a web site that offers various things each Friday. Over the years she has received lots of great item's. They are almost always new to the market so we become lab rats. This particular item is a frozen food sold at the Safeway markets. We've tried other item's of theirs and they have all been pretty good. Would you like to come over some evening and share with us?
It's nice we got something free and here is the dilemma. A serving of the crab puffs contains 310 mg sodium, 6 gm fat, and 120 calories. A serving is ONE.....1 crab puff, are you kidding me? They are frozen and cooked that way. They are not micro wave-able. I would need to pre heat the oven and bake these for twenty minutes. The box contains fifteen crab puffs, that's a lot of fat, and salt, and calories.
Free Crab Rangoon.....another of lives ever present dichotomies, to eat or not to eat? That is the question.
My cousin Lynne called the other day to catch up on things. She reads the blog and told me she now has ants. They have gone from Younger Daughter Rebecca to us and back to San Diego to Lynne and husband Marshall. Who is next?
Yesterday Wanda was using one of those make up pad removers. I just realized how much "stuff" women need and use. Guys do not wear make up, of course. If we want to get something off our face we use our hands or maybe the dish towel. We don't need no stinkin' "face pads." Anyhow, she was sitting in front of the lap top, playing Scrabble while taking off her make up:
She said, "Everything on Face Book is loading slowly."
He heard, Everything on my face is looking swoll-ly......(like swollen).
Maybe tomorrow we can all read about something nice for a change.
