In the past I have written about some of the TV we watch. Both of us enjoy "Burn Notice" and have been following it since the first episode. Watching it this season is a little different than in years past. Before I can settle in I must exorcise the Ghost of Harriet.
I stayed with Harriet and husband Paul while in Michigan last year. They have twice as many televisions as people in their house. Paul likes "Burn Notice" and had it on one evening. I like "Burn Notice" so I sat down to watch it. Harriet, obviously, does not like "Burn Notice." "How can you watch that crap?" she yelled. "The actors look like they would rather be anywhere else." "The writing is terrible," blah, blah, blah. She can't stand to see Paul enjoying himself.
Harriet, thank you for burning your critique of the show into my brain. (she doesn't read this)
We usually eat in front of the TV on folding trays. Emily Post might object but they are real wood and we use cloth napkins and place mats. When Wanda and I met I was so impressed by her use of cloth napkins. I had to remind myself I wasn't home where I usually used a dish towel or the back of my hand. I digress, so, we got dinner and found "Burn Notice" on the DVR. Just a few minutes into the program.....
THIS IS NOT A TEST...........THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM REPORTS A CHILD ABDUCTION.....etc. etc. etc. The California Highway Patrol.....was reporting the abduction of a 16 year old boy. The suspect was a 25 year old man. Details about the car and suspect were given. This happened in Antioch, the city just east of us, around five o'clock. We listened to the message, talked about it, and went back to "Burn Notice."
Three minutes later.....
THIS IS NOT A TEST.....this EBS report was a little more detailed. The time of the incident was changed to 3 o'clock.
I hope you understand I am in no way making fun of the EBS report. Anything that gets the public aware of a child abduction is a great positive. I probably don't have to say that. The only issue yesterday was information confusion. Here's what really happened according to the Antioch police.....By the way, as of late last night, all is well.
The police say a man robbed a barber shop in Antioch. A 16 year old boy who runs errands for the shop was returning just as the robber was making his get away. The suspect fled in the shop owners vehicle taking the boy with him.
The owner of Al's Barber Shop told KTVU that around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, an armed man came into his business and robbed him.
"He ordered me on the ground and ordered me to give him everything I had," explained Al, who did not give his last name and remained off camera to maintain anonymity."
Hello.......is this Al's Barber Shop?.........It is?.........Good, and are you the owner? You are, OK then, I was wondering.....
I have got to run along. I hate Take Out The Toters Tuesday, I feel so damn rushed.
