Procrastination

When Younger Daughter Rebecca.....why does the spell checker insist this is an incorrect spelling for Rebecca?......it wants me to change it to: Rebbecca, Rebeca, Rebecka, or Rebeka. I just found the dictionary in my spell check and added the correct spelling but it wouldn't accept it. Oh well, not going to change her name now. When Rebecca was writing a paper for one of her last classes she kept putting it off, and putting it off. She and I had a talk about procrastination versus getting things done.

I hated having deadlines hanging over my head. I always tried to complete projects well in advance of my due dates. I understand some people can't work like I do. Rebecca is one of those who need the deadline pressure to get things started, and finished.

I am getting the feeling the people that represent us in Washington work that way too. I'm asking myself exactly why they hold the key to all our fates. I sent the House Majority Leader an e mail this morning. Among other things, I told him he could have a hundred bucks a month from me if that would get it done. Now, lets see what happens. By the way, are any of these guys accountants?

I need to get out and do some yard work but it's too hot.

I need to organize a closet full of clothes but I need Wanda's help.

I need to categorize and organize about ten thousand baseball cards but I don't have the correct software.

I need to spend an hour doing step aerobics on our Wii but it's too late.

I want to make a fruit salad but I need some peaches and plums. I could go up to Safeway but it's too close to lunchtime and it's too busy.

I could drive up to Bill's Ranch Market but I don't have any cash. However, Bills takes debit and credit cards but there is a five dollar minimum and I don't want that much fruit.

I need to remove and reroute lots of cable now that we returned the cable box in the computer room but I need to move the desk and can't do it alone.

I have the new Stephanie Plum book to read but I am currently reading another book that I could finish today but it's putting me to sleep.

I would like a second cup of coffee but I'm hungry so I should eat something but I didn't use the Wii so I should probably eat some fruit but I don't have any peaches or plums but I do have the Stephanie Plum book. I could read that and take my mind of my hunger, I guess? Or, I could make a cup of coffee.

I made a latte' and before it was half gone I decided to go to Safeway since we need milk. We need the milk because I made the latte'. I suppose we could have made it to tomorrow with the current milk on hand, but, I may want another latte' later.

As long as I was going to the store for milk I would get a peach, banana's, and grapes. I could make a fruit salad since I was hungry before I made the latte'. Since I was going to the store I thought I would take a shower first.

Damn, it's hot out there, no wonder I didn't want to do the yard work.

I left for the store which is a mile and a half from us. There was a very recent two car accident blocking the main intersection. I had just enough room to squeeze around the police cars and motorcycles, the ambulance, fire truck, and the two very mangled cars in the middle of the road. It looked like a "someone ran the red light" accident. We never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever take off on green lights before checking to see if any idiots are coming through the intersection.

So far, and I know it's only been a couple of weeks, but I hate Take Out The Toters Tuesday and Whisk Away The Waste Wednesday. After so many years of getting our bins picked up on Thursday now it feels like the week has an extra day. See, Wanda works Monday through Thursday. Before, she was off the day after trash pick-up, now, she works the day after. I know, but it makes perfect sense to me.

and in the news today:

Flocks of Western seagulls which congregate around the ballpark as games end are growing in size, aggressiveness -- and punctuality, as the gulls that once arrived only as the game was ending are showing up earlier and earlier.

The birds steal food, pester patrons and even deposit poop in unwanted locations (such as everywhere). The bird problem is leading Giants officials to mull perhaps-unlikely solutions. Certainly it won't be to ask fans not to chow down on garlic fries and Caribbean chicken bowls -- though it does involve birds.

The team may hire falconers to scare away the seagulls. Falcons are used at waste management company Recology's dump in southwestern San Francisco to some effect, though hiring falconers could cost the team $100,000 a year or more.

I knew there was a good reason for watching the games on TV.

I am going to make a fruit salad and take a nap.
