Trash Day Thursday and a bark, bark, bark.......

In response to a couple of comments I have a few things to say, no, yes, and probably a week from Tuesday next.

Andi.....nope, I didn't lose my job over the letter. It was "just one of those things." And, thank you for the nice notes you leave on the blog. You too, Susan, Karen, Avie and I hope I didn't neglect anyone. I can't afford to lose you.

There are several ways to leave comments about the blog. I don't know the precise way to comment directly here. Older Daughter Jennifer set this up, and did a great job. I only know which buttons to click so I can write. I do post the blog to Face Book and comments can, and are, left there. Also, readers can get and respond to the blog via e-mail.

Younger Daughter Rebecca left a comment on Face Book yesterday. She was going to spend the week end with us and was around 11 then. She said I called and asked if it was OK to pick her up in the school van. And, by the way, there are a couple of "stiffs" in the back. She wrote that she didn't mind but "looked through the front windshield" the entire ride. Maybe back then I was hoping she would go into medicine?  My daughter, The Doctor?

Just reminded about the importance of "being something." Growing up we heard that we must go to college and get a degree. I once had a talk with the Rabbi about The Law. He thought I would be a terrific lawyer. I had the gift, according to him, the ability to speak in public and keep people from falling asleep. I did not follow his advice and go to law school. That would have put me to sleep, and fast.

Last night it finally cooled off around midnight. We both had trouble sleeping so I thought I would read for a while. I went into the family room, opened the patio door, opened my book, and within five minutes, closed my eyes. I quickly fell into a very deep sleep and had a dream about chasing rabbits, or chickens, or cats.

Are you familiar with the Harry Potter series? If not, you're really missing something. If so, you know about his connection with Voldemort. The connection is what I felt last night in the dream. I "saw" myself running after a number of critters. I thought I was still sleeping when I heard, GRRRRR, GRRRRR, GRRRRR, GROWL, GROWL, and GRRRR.

Half awake, half asleep, three feet in front of me I saw a nose pressed against the screen door. A low menacing snarl escaped between two rows of very sharp teeth. The large muscular body of Rocky the dog next door was practically in our family room. He was looking at me and he looked, hungry.

The other night Rocky pushed out a fence board and gained entrance to our yard. We think he was trying to get at a raccoon or Sparky Lee the backyard cat. Wanda did a quick fix the next day. I, of course, forgot all about it until 1:30 this morning. Armed with a flashlight I got the dog back through the 8 inch fence opening. While I was securing the loose board I saw another big dog next door. I sure hope the two of them crap on the other side of that yard. Oh, and I fixed the board this morning. It will hold but I can't say the same about the other 72.

Last week end we picked out a new security type front screen door. We went to Home Depot and I'm now re-thinking that decision. Although I can, and will, attempt some fix-it, do-it projects, this is not one of them. Home improvement places are very good for those I do myself. But having to depend on them for the total job, maybe not so good.

We paid a 50 buck deposit to have a "measure man" come out and measure the door I measured twice. To be fair, he also looked for any extras the job may require. We were told the deposit comes off the top of the $97 dollar installation charge. Just after nine this morning I called Home Depot.

The worker I spoke with today told me he didn't think the deposit was, a deposit. "I thought we changed that a while ago?" he said. At this point it's not worth getting aggravated over. We will check further when we go in to pay the balance. We thought this would be around $400 dollars, we shall see.

So far, this is what I know. The 50 dollars may, or may not, be a deposit. The basic installation charge is $97. The door we want is $149. The door knob and dead bolt etc. is $48. The rubber thing (sweeper) on the bottom of door is $25. Delivery of the door is $80. (although the guy comes here to install it) Or, we can rent their truck for $20 an hour. There is no charge if we put the door in or on the RAV. Also no charge if we walk and carry the door home. The charge for old door "haul-a-way" is $40. And, of course, any additional anything needed for proper installation is extra. I assume they are using tools we do not need to rent.

Each and every extra or additional charge represents something that can and probably will go wrong. It may have been better to go with a company that only does doors, or doors and windows. This is going to be a test of my resolve. Will I get through this project unscathed? Only time and the Home Depot will tell.

Speaking of a few hundred bucks for a new screen door.

NEW YORK (AP) — Union officials said Wednesday that NBA players and owners are about $7 billion apart over a 10-year span in their most recent proposals, a significant gap to close to avoid a work stoppage..............!

Gosh, what's SEVEN BILLION dollars between friends?

The other day I saw a quote on Face Book. I'm paraphrasing; I wanted to ask GOD how he could let so many people have problems and be hungry. I didn't  because I was afraid he would ask me the same thing.

They are SEVEN BILLION dollars apart? Ah, guess it's not all that much, I forgot, it is over a ten year span.
