Hi and a Happy Saturday to you.
We went to the local Farmers Market this morning. I was talking to someone yesterday about how early we get up. Many people think it's unusual or just plain nuts that we're up with the sun. We both love to get going early and today is a good example.
Wanda walked from 5:30 to 6:30 while I did aerobics on the Wii for 40 minutes. We went grocery shopping at Safeway from 6:45 to 7:30. Back home we did some housework and left for Farmers Market at 8:50. We did our market thing, stopped for coffee and got home around 9:50. From 10 to 1:15 we worked out in the back yard. At 1:30 we were both ready to call it a day.
I was a little surprised at what I saw at the Farmers Market this morning. A LOT of women paying for their goods with WIC vouchers. I admit knowing next to nothing about the program so I did a little research.
California has the most recipients in the country,1.45 million. A family of four can earn up to $41,348.00. WIC provides education and food to nutritionally at risk pregnant and breast feeding woman, infants, and children up to 5, that's age not number. The chart for number of kids goes up to 9 but you can have more.
The list of approved foods is very specific but no organics are allowed. No "free range" "no cage" or "stress free" chicken eggs are allowed. We buy organics and we buy "cage free" chicken eggs. I'm only sayin' is all. I did learn there are 18 different words to use for added sugar. Molasses is one of the words and we are using some tonight.
Hey, we just got a call from the install guy so the door will be up today.
Back to WIC. The most important statistic I looked at, at least to me, is education. Eighty two percent of the women in WIC had a high school, or less, education. I'm not a degree snob by any stretch of the imagination. WIC does have some teaching criteria maybe it should add a couple of subjects?
When a couple states the birth control they are using is the rhythm method, does that mean they do it to music?
They new door is in......more on that Monday.
