Some days I sit down with ideas already formed. Other days I haven't a clue. Some days I look forward to writing. Other days I would rather do almost anything else. Some days I think it's great that lots of people read what I write. Other days I think just a few people read what I write. Some days I think I will disappoint "my readers" if I don't write. Other days I don't think anyone would care. Some days this is a lot of fun. Other days It's work. Some days I think I am doing this for you. Other days I think I am doing this for me.
In the end, I do know the answer, I am doing this because not doing it would be too easy. I am doing this for me and hope you are along for the read.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are on their honeymoon. The reports have them vacationing in the Seychelles a string of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean about 1,000 miles off the eastern coast of Kenya. The couple are reported to be on the secluded North island of the archipelago, some 19 miles from the capitol Victoria. The residents of the area are delighted to have them. "Our approach," said Antonie Onezeim, "is to let visitors enjoy their holiday in our country without any disturbance."
The same can't be said for the residents of Niagara Falls who are disappointed the future King of England and his bride went elsewhere. Mr. Sidney Frobeshier owner of the Little Barrel Honeymoon Motel said, "It would have been a nice boost of the local economy," then added, "We were once part of England, 'ya know" A bar owner that asked to remain anonymous said, "This is the honeymoon capitol of the world but I guess we're not good enough for them."
Knowing William is an avid polo player Eddie Constantinio said, "well then, screw him and the horse he rode in on."
I guess it's good to be the King, most of the time.
Wanda and I didn't have an official honeymoon. I know it sounds silly to say we are still on one, but we are. We did marry on October 9, 1989 in Reno Nevada. We had been together a couple of years by that time. It was long enough for us to realize we were the only people that would have us, that's in a good way. In 1989 Wanda was working two jobs, I was going to school and working nights and most week ends. Sitting around on Friday we realized we had a free week end.
"Why don't we get married," Wanda said. I put down my Nintendo controller, looked over in her direction and said, "What?" She then went on to say we had a free week end and Monday was a holiday. It was great timing and we had been talking about it. I told her I was just about to enter the last dungeon in "The Legend of Zelda" and could we wait awhile. "At least until I get through this damn thing, please."
We decided our life together was more important than Zelda so we threw a few things in a suitcase. Daughter to be Jennifer and her then boyfriend were our witnesses. I guess they were there in case one of us forgot we were married.
The way all the 'Vegas and Reno weddings are portrayed in the movies I figured ours would be hokey, it wasn't. It was simple, quiet, and very nice. After the service we went back to the hotel and watched the SF Giants/Chicago Cubs playoff game. The Giants won the playoff series and that game 3-2. Eight days later, October 17, San Francisco had a devastating earthquake. I don't think it had anything to do with our marriage.
This October will be our twenty second wedding anniversary. There are only two things that prevent me from saying I wish it was our forty second; Jennifer and Rebecca, our daughters, the kids from our "other" spouses. Even in times of great difficulty rewards can materielize.
