Good Friday, Easter Sunday....Just Plain Saturday

Do you think a pineapple ripens while sitting on the counter waiting for you to get unlazy and cut the damn thing into little pieces? I did. Have you ever purchased a pineapple and had it rot while it was sitting on your counter waiting for you to get unlazy and cut it into little pieces? I have. Cutting the fruit is pretty difficult. I wonder if there is a "As Seen On TV" pineapple cutter?

I picked up a pineapple the other day. I felt and smelled, pressed and poked but was getting nowhere. I  thought I would ask the "fruit guy" for some help. "Hey, fruit guy, could you pick one out for me, please?"  Here's the good part. He felt, smelled and pressed. But, he didn't poke, he plucked. He gave me the fruit and said, "This is a good one but wait a couple of days." I thanked him and put my wait a couple of days pineapple in the cart. I only use one because I don't keep Kosher.

I thought if you could easily pull out a top leaf thing (or pluck) you had a ripe pineapple. Not so according to the web site, "everything you need to know about fruit." Once the fruit is picked it is as ripe, or unripe as it's going to get. The information wasn't very helpful, it was more about what isn't, rather than what is, ripe. What it comes down to, I think, is a little luck and a little practice. Pretty much like anything we do in this life.

I hope the termites are dead. This morning I saw the same sawdust looking stuff that caused us to spend five hundred and fifty dollars last Monday. I hope we don't have the same problem or worse, a different one. Wanda looked and said, "It's probably just a bunch of dead stuff." I guess I'm a half empty person and she is a half full. Recently I have noticed my initial reaction on many things is oh crap, what now? Tell you the truth, I don't like it much. Starting today I am going to turn over a new leaf, termites? what termites? Now, hand me that pineapple.

Wanda is talking to herself again. We eat very little red meat here at home. We are not vegetarians, or vegans, or on some special diet. Over the last couple of years we've just plain gotten away from it. We do eat a roast of some kind once every couple of months. Today is a pot roast day which is why Wanda is talking to herself. When I cook I do one thing at a time cleaning as I go. Wanda can do many steps together and cleans when she is done. Whatever the method we are both pretty good cooks.

Face Book needs step people and in-laws on it's family listings. I have a son-in-law and a step-son-in-law, a step-daughter and a step- grandson. Wanda posted a picture of Grandson Nick on Face Book today. He is hunting Easter Eggs, he was three, now he's fifteen. I used to chase him around with kitchen tongs up my sleeves. He would scream and laugh while I did my "Pirate Grrrrrrrrr." Getting old, the wonderful memories sort of help, a little.

I have been talking with my daughter Rebecca much more often recently. It's Face Book, e-mail and texts, which is OK with me. I've connected with family. I talk with new friends, old friends and very old friends. A few weeks ago I got a Face Book message from someone I haven't seen or heard from in over forty five years, that's pretty cool. I'm discovering I had, and have, a pretty good life. I also have some wonderful memories that help, a lot.

Happy Easter to my friends and family, may you find many eggs but even more chocolate.
