Wanda has a great idea.

As you already know Wanda and I have been re"modeling" the family room/kitchen in the house. This started with the purchase of a new television. To make a very long story short, with the new set everything else in the room looked like crap. Old shelving holes, speaker wires poking out of walls, and just plain old, old, old paint. We decided to keep it simple, fresh new paint and a new "entertainment" fixture.

Last Friday we spent most of the day removing furniture, patching holes, washing walls and prepping for paint. Saturday morning we got to Home Depot just after 6AM to pick up our supplies. On the way home it seemed like a good idea to stop and get some coffee, so we did.

In the past here I may have mentioned all the new construction going on in our downtown area. Take a look and visit if you can. Click on the link and spend a few minutes, I think you'll be surprised.

We have a very nice coffee shop  good coffee click here we dropped in on the way home. The picture is me, a little heavier, about six months younger, last summer on the way to a Thursday Night Classic Car Show downtown.

While waiting for the coffee we were talking with Adrian, the shop owner. I said how nice it was I could "camp out" there the day our power was out. I said something about using his Wi-fi and electricity for my lap top and cell phone He asked me if I wrote about it? He then said "I read your blog, itwas very good." I can't tell you what a cool feeling that was. Someone actually went out in Internet ville and "found" my blog. He liked it and thought it was funny, and, good.

I asked him how he happened to find my funny and good blog. Like maybe I am listed somewhere in a "funny and good" list. Or, maybe someone read it, gave it a great review, so now I was on the top of a "should read" list. I was feeling pretty darn good about myself when he said, "I have a Goggle search set up to notify me when ever it recognizes "Steeltown Coffee and Tea." (probably just Steeltown Coffee too). I remembered in addition to writing about the PG&E all day power failure (I hope they don't have a Goggle search thing) I mentioned the coffee shop several times. I won't say it was like someone stuck a pin in me but my swelled self importance and satisfaction did deflate just a little.

Now that I'm thinking about it, Adrian said he liked the blog. I just thought of a way to get a new reader. STEELTOWN COFFEE & TEA, STEELTOWN COFFEE & TEA, STEELTOWN COFFEE & TEA.

Wanda has a great idea!

Take a look back at yesterdays blog entry. I wish I could find a "before" but can not. Check out the three piece hanging light fixture in front of Wanda. We were planning on a replacement because there was more to it just the other day. Picture an eight inch round dinner plate sitting on the lip, or bottom, of those three lights. They were clear glass with etched stripes, or rings, on them. If the lights were Saturn, those plates were the rings. We thought the fixture a little too "heavy." Looking at replacements we were thinking of a double "pendent" light. Very much like what is now hanging in the picture.

At some point in our painting morning Wanda said, "Let's put something like a bag, or pillow case around the globes and break the plates (Saturn rings)." If we broke the wrong thing we were going to replace it anyway. The only other option would be taking the very heavy fixture down and apart. So, we grabbed a plastic bag, a towel, and a hammer. We now have a "new" light that didn't cost anything. It was a great idea and a great way to re-purpose something.

The "before" picture and the ladder that caused me grief. Sunday morning I discovered I really need to get back in front of the Wii. Before I went to Michigan I was doing step aerobics for an hour almost every day. I have been back for five weeks now. I bet I've only worked out five times. I don't know when our next painting session will be but I'm going to be ready for it, whenever. Tomorrow morning I have a Wii date and I don't mean a short one.

Another "before" picture. Home Depot sells 8oz. paint samples for three dollars. We've only been stuck with a color once but at $35 a gallon we wanted to be sure of our color choice. The shade I have been calling red was really the current jam. I can't help but wonder what the old jam looked like? The small color drop of the current looked pink and we hated it. We got it home put some on the wall and really liked it.  So, our $12 dollar investment for color samples was a good idea. Now I need to figure out what to paint after I mix them together.

I am pretty sure smelling the paint all day Saturday and Sunday morning did something to both of us. We needed a few things at the local Safeway so went yesterday before the ballgames. We had a list we forgot to check once we were at the store. How difficult can it be for two grown up adults to remember yogurt, coffee, blueberries, Bocca Burgers, milk, cheese, and mushrooms? For me and Wanda who have one brain between us lots of times, plenty difficult. We split up to expedite our shopping. We came home with frozen shrimp and avocado, not on the list and forgot the coffee, yogurt and Bocca's.

By the way, the shrimp was on sale at 50% off, the blueberries buy one get two free.
I guess I will be going shopping tomorrow. I have enough coffee to last the day and evening.

Did anyone know this?

holiday:
a missed spot when using a roller, the previous color of paint shows through

I didn't until a few years ago when Wanda let me know I had lots of them in a room I was painting.

Baked Scone and Currant Jam

We still need to do all the work in the kitchen and put a new floor down. I hope we can finish this sometime in 2011. Stop by tomorrow and keep me company while I take the cupboard doors off.
