Last night, as you know, we had the phone problem, it got resolved. The nurse came to the house and spent at least an hour taking off the leaking applience and putting a new one on Fred. This was terrific. She even asked for a hair blower to use heat to help melt the wax gasket. I'm not sure why a bald guy had a hair blower in his closet? She did a masterful job, we got on with our night.
This morning the official "ostomy" nurse came to the house. She talked to us for over an hour. She checked the appliance, pronounced it a good fit and a good seal and left. She made an appointment for tomorrow after asking us if we wanted her back then, or, on Thursday.
At 11 Fred had his first appointment with the Occupational Therapist. She was very nice and since I asked her to go hard on him, she did. I went down to the Dungeon (the finished basement) the place I am proud to call my home, and hid. She worked with him for an hour. When she left I found Fred sitting at his desk checking his e mail. I had such mixed emotions about this. I was real happy he was up but now I had to fight him for HIS computer. I am now sitting in the local Caribou Coffee Shop using the Wi-Fi or, as he calls it, The Wiki Wiki.
I digress. Just after the OT left I made him lunch. A cheese and sausage omelet and toast he didn't touch. Fred sat up for almost two hours, got back into bed for a short nap. I took advantage of this lull and took a shower, using the new hand held sprayer I installed just a few minutes before.
I was clean, I was happy, I was going to get him up and grab some alone time on this computer, at this place. I went in to get him up and he said, "Chuck, I hate to tell you this but I think this thing is leaking." It wasn't leaking, it was like Niagara Falls. I'll make a long story short, I changed the appliance, once again. I first called the ostomy nurse that had declared it a "good seal" just a few hours before, she was worthless but, as Scarlett O'Hara said, "Tomorrow is another day." She will be back tomorrow and that should be fun.
By the way, I needed some tools today. Fred has a total of five. One of them is of course, a level. He puts the legs of his furniture back in the same carpet indentations so a level is a must. He also has a screwdriver, pliers, one wrench, and a hammer our mother used to break chicken bones.
I think my time is just about up so I should be getting back to the house. I am thinking it would be nice to watch the Monday Night Football game tonight, maybe I will.
I am posting a picture of me waking him up this morning.
