I don't know what's wrong with me this morning. Nothing is clicking and nothing seems important, interesting or funny.
I'll keep looking.
Last night I opened an email from our travel agent. We had been upgraded to a very popular balcony location for our October cruise. We always book guarantee cabins which gets us an entry level price and gives the cruise company the option of assigning us a cabin anywhere.
Just like real estate, cabins are also valued by location, location, location.
This will be our first time sailing in a coveted aft facing cabin. Many people swear by them. They have an over sized balcony, a great wake view and privacy. The location means a lot of walking which is a good thing on a cruise. The more exercise the more desserts one can eat. Older Daughter Jennifer sailed in an aft in 2008. She didn't care for it.
"I prefer to see where I'm going rather than where I've been," she said.
The cabin assignment is pretty appropriate. I need to take a long look at where I've been, and soon.
So I thought I would do some research on the cabin. You know, see what people thought and how they liked it. I did a Google for Star Princess D-734 and the second link took me to a post written by our very first cruise friend.
We met Marilyn (and husband Pat) in 2004. They helped us celebrate our 15th anniversary on board Sapphire Princess. The four of us sailed together seven times over the years and got together for many other occasions.
Marilyn died this year, she had cancer.
It was somewhat disorienting reading her words. She always referred to me as her brother. I miss her and Pat a lot. Seeing her alive on-line made me wonder what the future holds for all these blogs.
A Colorado man made it very easy for law enforcement officials to earn their paychecks after robbing a bank while wearing a shirt with his name on it.
According to police, John David Miller went to a Wells Fargo branch in Denver wearing a personalized polo shirt bearing his name. The suspect approached a teller and said, "This is a robbery, give me the money."
The suspect also drove his own Honda to the bank so investigators were able to use the license plate to track down Miller.
Officers showed his DMV photo to a bank employee. "That's him. He's the one who robbed the bank this morning," the employee said.
After an investigation that took all of five hours, Miller was arrested.
While he was in custody, he reportedly said he had "told his wife that he had borrowed the money and did not tell her that he had robbed the bank."
The 68-year-old was booked into jail in Denver on investigation of felony robbery involving $20,000 or more.
An Oklahoma woman wasn't satisfied with the purity of her methamphetamine, so she decided to do something about it.
54-year-old Lynette Rae Simpson called police because she thought her "ice" was laced with something. When an officer arrived to check it out, Simpson reportedly said, "I'm glad you came."
During the course of their interaction, Simpson showed the officer multiple areas where she had meth stashed. She also admitted to using the drug and was "hearing things and sweating profusely."
The officer arrested Simpson and brought her to the county jail.
"Once you think you've seen it all, something new will surprise you."
Simpson is facing a felony count of possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. She could be sentenced to up to 10 years in jail if convicted.
A Polish priest claims that "an evil spirit" has taken over the body of a teenager, and that the demon within the girl is sending him nasty text messages.
Father Marian Rajchel performed an exorcism on the girl; he claims the texts started coming shortly thereafter.
The exorcism obviously didn't take. "The author of these texts is an evil spirit who has possessed her soul. Clearly this young girl has been possessed, and needs further help."
"She will not come out of this hell. She's mine. Anyone who prays for her will die," read one message from the girl. "Shut up, preacher. You cannot save yourself. Idiot. You pathetic old preacher," said another.
Rajchel did text back, and he is also continuing to pray for the girl.
Father Rajchel says that it's not uncommon for demons to possesses people and use their wireless technology.
A Times Square "Spider-Man" was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly started a fight with a police officer who told him to stop asking tourists for bigger tips.
Junior Bishop was arrested and charged with assault, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after the incident.
Bishop is accused of punching a rookie police officer after the cop told the 25-year-old to stop attempting to extort tourists for $5, $10 or $20 tips.
"Mind your own [expletive] business" Bishop reportedly said after the NYPD cop told a tourist she could tip the costumed hero whatever she wanted.
"From what I saw, it was Spider-Man's fault," a witness said. "He grabbed the cop, and then I saw him swing and hit him in the face. The cop had to go to the hospital. Nobody expected that."
Police are cracking down on costumed characters in Times Square after a number of recent incidents.
Characters including Captain America, Jessie the cowgirl from Toy Story and at least one other Spider-Man were also arrested for various charges.
Luis Salinas, aka Captain America, was one of the characters who got collared.
"I didn't do anything. I was standing by Spider-Man, who punched a cop, and then four cops came over and arrested me. I didn't struggle. I let them arrest me."
She wasn't a very good psychic.
Nevada psychic Helen Minden was arrested on a charge of attempting to obtain money under false pretenses after an undercover investigation concluded she was committing fraud.
The investigation was initiated after the sheriff's office received complaints from customers of Welch.
An officer went into Minden's shop and got a $25 tarot card reading.
The 64-year-old then allegedly said the officer's spouse was having an affair, but that she could fix the problem for a $700 fee.
After being paid, Welch gave the officer three long-stemmed roses and a plastic bag emblazoned with "Spiritual Karma Cleanser."
When officers opened the bag they found two Dulcolax tablets, a bottle of magnesium citrate and a Fleet enema kit.
Welch was arrested and booked into jail.
