According to the San Francisco Examiner "hundreds" of elderly women descended on a San Francisco Walgreens to do battle over deeply-discounted eggs.
Walgreens offered up cartons of a dozen eggs for 99 cents. Fisticuffs ensued when the sale proved so popular that the store ran out which caused the remaining shoppers to scuffle over the last few cartons.
Police were called to the scene to quell a near riot when 20 agitated shoppers began "fighting over" what was left of the egg stock upon their arrival at the 8 a.m. store opening.
No women were injured but a large number of eggs were cracked in the melee. A few hours later a truck delivered more eggs and everyone was happy to buy their soon-to-be decorated Easter Eggs.
We have two food holiday's today, Healthy Kids and National Cheese Ball Day. A terrific combination if I say so myself. So give your child carrot and celery sticks for lunch and serve up a great big cracker crusted cheese ball with dinner.
I don't care for cheese balls. They roll around when I try to cut into them and I never get the right amount of cheese on my knife. I dislike cheese logs even more; they remind me of something I wrote about yesterday. I've heard no holiday or special event party is complete without a cheese offering, well make mine Gouda and I don't mean a ball of it.
It makes me want to scream!
Henrique de Castro the recently fired Chief Operating Officer of Yahoo received a severance package of $58 million even though he lasted just 15 months on the job. Only 15 months implies he did not perform to expectations. Hey Yahoo, hire me. I'll do a horrible job, you can fire me after one day and it'll only cost you a hundred and twenty-eight grand.
This guy received about $128,000 per DAY for his efforts. It's not because I'm semi-broke or at all envious when I say, that makes me frigging sick.
An Oregon woman whose hair used to reach her backside has filed a $10,000 lawsuit against Walmart for selling a shampoo that allegedly caused her hair to get so tangled she was forced to cut most of it.
According to Jennifer Falardy's suit, the bottle of “Equate Everyday Clean Dandruff Shampoo” she bought at a Portland Walmart caused her hair to become impossibly entangled in seconds.
“She was not able to remove the knots and as a result she had to cut a large portion of her hair from the top and back of her head,” the suit states.
According to Falardy's attorney, William Bennit, the 30-year-old woman had to cut off a few feet of hair, leaving her with about four inches, a loss he called “devastating.”
Falardy is seeking the $10,000 for "past, present and future physical and emotional pain and suffering, anxiety, humiliation and embarrassment, expenses for replacement hair, along with diminished and lost wages” as well as the “loss of life’s pleasures and activities.”
Both Irving and Phil were bald, so who ever was my father passed me the gene. I'm losing my hair at a rapid clip (get it....clip). I'm suffering from hair loss anxiety. I think I'll call a lawyer and see about a lawsuit.
James Manning and his wife are this week's candidates for Mensa.
James Manning was arrested for stealing a 2001 Mitsubishi from an auto dealership and taking it to his court appearance.
Police were able to locate the car, which had a different set of license plates on it, after using a GPS tracking device.
Manning’s wife, 45-year-old Teresa Castillo, was spotted at the car and told officers that her 49-year-old husband had bought it earlier in the day for $200. Granted there are several models but a '91 Mitsubishi lists at $1,545-$3,500.
Castillo and Manning were booked on felony charges of possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance after police discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Manning was appearing in court on a previous possession of a controlled substance charge.
Younger Daughter Rebecca is a high school teacher. I'm beginning to question her decision to move to Portland, Oregon. Is the area fraught with radicals?
An Oregon mother has filed a lawsuit against her son’s school district after he was suspended for getting on social media and making a death threat against his health teacher because she gave him a C and got him grounded.
When Veronica Bouck gave him the mediocre grade, 16-year-old Braeden Burge called her a "bitch" who "needs to be shot" on his Facebook page.
"I just noticed that every time I've been grounded in middle school it's because of Mrs. Bouck ... I wish she would just get fired haha but I doubt that'll ever happen," the teen added.
His mother, along with the ACLU Foundation of Oregon, has filed a suit against Colton School District 53 alleging First and Fourteenth Amendment violations.
Kelly Burge claims the district had no right to suspend her son for comments he made "from the privacy of his own home, outside of school hours, and while not participating in a school-sponsored activity."
The suit seeks to have Braeden's record expunged.
"The district has overreached by suspending Braeden for off-campus speech with no evidence that his speech actually caused or was reasonably likely to cause a material and substantial disruption of on-campus educational activities," the complaint states. "[Principal Kara Powell] did not ask Braeden if he had access to guns or any experience with guns, she did not speak with the other students who posted comments on Braeden's Facebook wall in response to his comments about Bouck.”
A previous lawsuit against the school district was dismissed "for procedural reasons."
Braeden made a threat on Facebook against his teacher who "gave him a C and got him grounded."
I don't know the entire story but once again I think this is a case of someone not taking responsibility for their own actions. Instead of filing a lawsuit and blaming others, perhaps the mother could investigate why her son received an average grade.
I usually stay away from controversial subjects. Everything should be taken with a grain of salt as I often use artistic license to embellish stories. I try to write interesting, thought provoking, even provocative, but non confrontational blog entries.
I hate the thought of offending anyone. I've only received a few upsetting comments. I guess it means I'm doing a good job with subject edits or I have a small or apathetic number of readers.
Talk to you on Monday. As always, thanks for reading the blog.
