Sorry......We're Closed.
And after all this time the republican congress wants to "form a committee" for a conference to negotiate and resolve differences. They couldn't do that four months ago?
Question on the news this morning.
A cumulus cloud 1 km on each side weighs:
a) 220,000 lbs.
b) 1.2 million lbs.
c) 2.2 billion lbs.
d) I don't care the government is closed (I just added this).
The correct answer is c) 2.2 billion lbs. This blog can be educational.
I know you don't read this for my political insight. I've often mentioned my ignorance of Washington ways. I don't want to open a debate or discussion on who is right and who is wrong. I'm just very frustrated with a system that is so dysfunctional.
October 1st is World Vegetarian Day.
Put the burgers, ribs and chops aside. Make a salad or veggie soup for lunch and dinner. Michelle Fishstairus the northwest regional director of Virtuous Vegetarian says, "There are many delicious alternatives and choices, even the hard core 'meat and potatos' person can be satisfied."
She suggests several books, "All About Tofu" by Sidney Blaylock, "Edible Flowers: Pedals For The Plate" by Henrette Farnstooth, and "Ten Dozen Ways To Cook Squash" by Cynthia Ponder.
Registered Dietitian Roseann Hopping-Carter said, "I tell my clients to cut down slowly. Try substituting one meal the first week, two the next, and so on." Hopping-Carter adds, "We've made great strides in meat pharmacology and now have FDA approval on baloney and headcheese patches. The last thing you want to do is go cold-turkey."
By the way, October is National Apple Month, Caramel, Cookie and Dessert Month. It's also National Pasta, Pickled Peppers and Pizza Month. It's Popcorn Poppin', Pretzel and Seafood Month. And it's also National Pork Month. I assume National Pork Month starts tomorrow.
If you enjoy watching grass grow, paint dry and listening to golf on the radio you'll love this. Norway's state-run TV channel announced it will air an hours-long program featuring eight people aiming to beat a knitting world record.
The NRK network said the knitting attempt will begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 and the channel will chronicle the team of eight's attempt to beat a "from sheep to sweater" knitting record -- 4 hours, 51 seconds -- set by an Australian team.
"We have already earmarked the lamb to be shorn, and started to put together the team of eight people who will be trying to break the knitting record: one to sheer, while the seven remaining must spin and knit as fast as they can," producer Lise-May Spissoy said.
The network described the knitting program as part of its effort to bring "slow but noble television" to the airwaves. NRK previously aired a 12-hour program in February that depicted a fire being built and maintained.
And I complain there's nothing on cable.
The owner of the newly opened Zombie Survival store in Florida said the shop carries everything a customer could need for an undead apocalypse.
Joseph Curtis, owner of the store in an Orlando strip mall, said the store's wares include surplus supplies from the U.S. Army and Navy such as gas masks, books, camouflage gear, backpacks, machetes and MRE (Meals Ready to Eat) rations.
"Zombies get people excited," Joseph said. "It's a craze right now."
The store offers zombie-related merchandise including zombie shooting targets that bleed when hit, zombie-related books, severed zombie heads, table cloths featuring fake blood-spatter and zombie garden gnomes.
"Here in Florida half our population already live like zombies, without the flesh eating part. We have zombie styled walkers, canes and motorized scooters. So come on down to Joe's Zombie Emporium. Tell 'em Joe sent ya' for a 10% discount. Seniors 60 and over receive 15% off on Monday.
Joe says, "If you like zombies, we have zombie stuff for you."
What's the difference between a zombie and a politician? Not much.
