Over the last year Wanda and I have been on an exercise and diet regime. The exercise consists of various aerobic work outs using Wii Fit programs, and walking. Our diet isn't a diet, it's portion control. Except for the annual Easter trip to the Taste of Denmark bakery in Oakland all our goodies are homemade. No more Oreo cookies, no more Hagan Daz ice-cream, no more Lay's potato chips.
Wanda and I have lost a combined seventy-five pounds.
Is it obligation that sends people scrambling at the last minute?
Since Sunday was Mother's Day we thought early Costco shopping would be a breeze. We arrived there just before opening at 10 a.m. W.T.F? Were they giving away free televisions? Hundreds of people were crowded in front of the large roll-up entry doors. We must have been one of the few who wanted to shop. When the doors opened people swarmed through faster than a hot dog disappearing down Joey Chestnut's gullet. Fresh flowers? That's what ninety percent of the people wanted, fresh cut flowers.....at Costco.
We don't celebrate holiday's in our family. We are good to each other all year.
I've been asked where I get topics for the blog. Many of them come from articles on the web, lots from Wanda, and some I get from the fertile recesses of my brain. I wake in the night and take notes of my thoughts. Here is something from two nights ago.
1:01 a.m: Warming (carry-out) getting food that one, only smile, be happy: starting to eat etc. microwave kicks in.
I have no idea what this means, not a clue.
Verge: This is a great word.
It's a nickname for Virgil which is currently ranked 867 in US birth names. It's best year was 1950 when it ranked 243.
It's also something that borders, limits, or bounds: an outer margin of an object or structural part : the edge of roof covering (as tiling) projecting over the gable of a roof : a paved or planted strip of land at the edge of a road : shoulder
And it's even the male copulatory organ of various invertebrates.
"She would know. Yeah, I guess we've done no copulating since...wait a minute. That doesn't figure out right. I can't be the father." Amos Hart
Hey.....is that a verge in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
A couple of news items from today.
Merida the main character in the Pixar/Disney film "Brave" is making the rounds of the morning news shows. Disney has officially made her it's 11th princess. In doing so they have redesigned her character somewhat, slimming her down, widening her eyes, and giving her a sexier look.
Many women's groups are upset. Merida was a strong and independent young lady who didn't fit the same old princess mold. She was someone young girls could look up to and a good role model. Now Disney is drawing her to resemble all the other ladies who are waiting for their prince.
The other bit of news is Angelina Jolie and her double mastectomy. Her disclosure and discussion may empower other woman which is great. I understand why this is such a hot topic. However, I heard someone from "E" or an equally inane broadcast saying, "I don't think this should have any bearing on the roles she will be offered." Why is that even worth saying? Are there people in the world who would think otherwise? Sad if true.
Jolie would be better thought of as a humanitarian. But as an actor she should be offered roles because of her talent. Young ladies should be looking to parents and teachers for role models. Kids should be taught to look at the women who worked on the Pixar film. The women who may have designed Merida, not Merida herself.
Thanks for all of your kind and thoughtful comments about Casper.
