An attorney says a disabled man was awarded $8,000 by Disneyland after the "It's A Small World" ride broke, stranding him for a half hour while the theme song played continuously.
Lawyer David Geffen says Jose Martinez didn't medically stabilize for three hours after the ride broke down in 2009.
Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown said the Anaheim theme park believes it provided appropriate assistance during the incident, and is disappointed that the court did not fully agree.
Geffen says Martinez uses a wheelchair, suffers from panic attacks and high blood pressure, which was aggravated by a need to urinate.
Geffen says half the award ordered Friday is for pain and suffering, and the rest is for disability law violations. Brown says the violations have been addressed.
What was a man with all these problems doing on the ride IN THE FIRST PLACE? This story truly makes me sick. Can I sue Geffen and Martinez for my pain and suffering?
We broke down while on the Pirates of the Caribbean. We were next to the pirate with the dirty hairy feet and heard, "Yo-ho-ho it's a pirates life for me" for twenty minutes. We also got stuck inside Toy Story. Wanda is claustrophobic and sitting in the car bothered her. I guess she should have screamed and cried, maybe worth ten thousand? More if she passed out.
Weight loss and health issues are two topics I visit regularly. This morning the "How To Drop 10-Pounds in 5-Weeks" caught my eye.
It sounds so simple on paper. Keep a record of what you eat and take in 1,000 fewer calories than you burn. Who has time for this? You need to research calories, weigh food, do all the math, and record everything.
More 'helpful' tips. Attach a dollar amount to each pound and challenge your friends to a contest. Hire a personnel trainer, as if we can afford it. If your partner buys 'bad food' and you don't have the will power to avoid it, move out.
Once you move out and lose weight, find yourself another partner.
OK, you're in a new place and want to continue healthy eating.
Artichokes are loaded with fiber and vitamin C, magnesium and potassium. They're excellent for heart and muscle health. High amounts of antioxidants translates into reduced free radicals linked to aging and disease. Don't be afraid of the artichoke. Find a YouTube on prepping, cooking, and eating them. It may take a few times but you'll get the hang of it. Once cooked, eat one leaf at a time, scraping the 'meat' off with your teeth. We like them with mayo, various salad dressings, or lots and lots of melted butter.
Asparagus is an excellent source of nutrients like vitamin K which is necessary for bone health. Asparagus also contains good amounts of vitamins C, A, B1, B2, niacin, B6, manganese, potassium, magnesium, and selenium. We love asparagus and try to buy thin stalks. After rinsing, grasp each end between your finger and thumb and bend down forming an arch. The stalk will snap indicating the best size to eat. There are many ways to prepare asparagus. Our favorite is pan grilled in a little olive oil for about 8 minutes. Sprinkle with lemon and thinly sliced almonds.
After eating asparagus some people's urine smells like a stinky sewer. If you are one of the lucky ones, don't panic.
Chives, Collards, and Kale are loaded with various anti-compounds. They help lower cholesterol and the risk of cancer. Chives taste great on baked potatoes with sour cream and butter. The other two? How long do you want to live? If you think eating Collard and Kale is important, good for you.
Rhubarb is high in fiber, vitamin C and K. However, the leaves are poisonous so don't eat them. You can spend days looking for things to do with rhubarb or, make a pie. Nothing wrong with a little sugar and graham cracker crust.
Spinach, Spring Greens, and Watercress are all high in vitamins and minerals. Like the other listed green foods, yuck.
Strawberries, finally something that actually tastes good. Just eight strawberries pack more vitamin C than one orange. Whether you want to evade heart disease, arthritis, memory loss, or cancer, these berries have proven their ability to help.
Have you noticed that much of the food that's 'good for us' doesn't taste very good? I know there are different ways to prepare and cook all of the suggested 'super foods' but still, give me a carrot over watercress, celery over collards.
While on the subject of health and foods, let's think about salt. You should be reading labels and avoiding anything high in sodium. Some of the processed and canned foods have scary amounts of salt in them. Learn to avoid the salt shaker. This seasoning can be deadly. But there are a few uses you should know.
If you drop an egg on the floor sprinkle salt on it, wait a few minutes, and sweep it up. If you drop it on the counter use a small amount of salt and make scrambled eggs.
Salt will sooth a bee sting. Wet the area and cover it with salt. Now get lemon wedges and a bottle of tequila. Lick, drink, squeeze or lick, squeeze, drink? I can never remember. After a few good belts you'll forget about the bee sting.
Cover a grease fire with salt to smother it. Or toss in popcorn and sugar for kettle corn. Never use water on a grease fire.
When is the last time you had a rotten egg? When is the last time you said, "Last one in is a rotten egg?" If you think you may have one then put two teaspoons of salt in a cup of water. Drop in an egg, a good egg will sink but a rotten egg will float.
You can clean brown spots off the bottom of an iron with salt. Sprinkle salt on waxed paper and rub the iron. Then clean it with silver polish. Do you have waxed paper? Silver polish? Do you ever iron?
Every so often I think about a suggestion or advice that would improve my surroundings or life. "Strawberries would last longer and apples would be better if washed in water and vinegar." Then I think about getting the vinegar and bowl, the measuring cup and spray bottle. "Screw-it, its too much bother. I've been eating apples all my life, a little more pesticide won't kill me."
I've gotten this far and considering my younger days it is surprising. As a kid I'm sure I didn't wash my hands enough. I would touch things in stores and then eat an ice cream. I played in the dirt, drank from the hose, and never heard of handy-wipes. Now I try and take good care of myself. I think there are many ways to improve my health without going overboard.
Only God knows how much time I have left. I don't want to spend it trying new recipes for watercress and kale.
