I met with my new doc this morning. She is very nice and very pregnant. I'm laughing here because this is so sad. It is, I think, an accurate commentary on our medical and insurance systems.
By the way, you need to know, I am going to this new doctor because the insurance company told me to switch. The insurance company has known who, what, why, when, and where, pertaining to the change, for a month. The insurance company made contact with the new doctor over a week ago.
The last prescription I got from my old doc, from the day he was gone that was signed by the NP, my insurance adjuster will not authorize. Why? because the NP is not an "approved" doctor or representative. So, it's sitting in the pharmacy, unfilled.
Today, the new doc wrote a prescription for 7 days and we made an appointment to see her again in a week. She said she would fax the new paperwork to my adjuster before I left the building. On the way home I stopped at Safeway, to drop off the new script. I walked up to the counter.
"Oh good, you got it rewritten," said the pharmacist. He assumed this was the old doc rewriting the script that the NP gave me. "No, I said, "this is a brand new one from the doc I am seeing now." The pharmacy technician put in a computer request for an authorization and it was, of course, denied. Then she said, "I will call them and let you know as soon as I hear something, and added, we were talking about this yesterday, going back and forth with them."
This is what should happen; I go to the doctor and the doctor gives me a prescription. I take it to the pharmacy. They send a fax or an e-mail, or make a call to Cypress Care, who coordinates the medications. Cypress Care calls,
faxes or send an e-mail to the insurance adjuster for authorization. The adjuster has 24 to 72 hours to respond with the authorization to Cypress Care. Cypress Care gets authorization, they call the pharmacy, it fills the prescription and I pick it up. Then, we do it all again four weeks later.
As of now, here is what I know, or think. My old doc is authorized to write until the end of the month. The new doc will be authorized to write the beginning of September. They seem to think this will all work itself out. I don't think so. For this new change to work today my insurance adjuster will need to use a little creative thought and some rudimentary math. I don't think she has the capability.
I saw this coming a couple of months ago so I made sure to cover my ass. As Mr. Gump used to say, "And that's all I'm going to say about that."
Do you think "Undercover Boss" really makes the boss go under the covers? And, what's with the cat who refuses to sleep on the blanket but must lay on the sheets?
Last week we got a Samsung Galaxy 2 Tablet. It was a source of contention the first few days. Neither of us have used one. Neither of us have spent more than a few minutes even watching someone use one. We two have very, very, different styles of learning. I open a users manual and read step by step instructions. And I will do one thing at a time until I get it right. I go slow and try to learn a few things each time I use it.
Wanda, she just starts clicking things and opening files and pressing buttons. At one point she turned the pad over a few times and I yelled, "Hey, that's not an Etch A Sketch." I have a terrible habit. While she is working with the new toy I look over her shoulder and make tsking and guttural noise. I hear her mutter about something not doing what she thinks it should and rush to the rescue when a) she hadn't asked and b) I have no idea what she is trying to do and wouldn't know how to help even if I did.
The best thing I can do in these situations is, nothing. I should just ignore her. Maybe one of these days I will listen to myself, although I doubt it. By the way, it's very cool and so far lots of fun.
Speaking of the tablet, while talking about accessories for it:
She said, "I'll be really happy when I get my case."
He heard, I'll be really happy when I get my cape.
Watching someone doing something on TV:
She said, "She looks like me trying to dance."
He heard, She looks like me stepping on ants.
"See" you next Monday. Thanks for reading the blog.
