Not Again..........

I can not believe I did it again!

Went to my "go to the doc every month" appointment this morning and stopped at Safeway on the way home. We had a buy ten dollars in the produce department and get three dollars off Just 4 U deal. I wanted to pick up milk anyway so while there I cruised the fruits and vegetables.

Now I can glance at my counter with pride. I have six Fuji apples, four from Chile and two from New Zealand. Two California avocados. A large bag of cherries from somewhere in the USA and four bananas and a cantaloupe from I don't know where. All this for just over ten bucks, not to mention (that is a really stupid thing to write because I am) a minor contribution to various economies around the world.

So, what was it that I did again? I left my keys in the car while I was shopping for the third or fourth time.

There is just no accounting for others incompetence. I was going to say how flummoxed I was but that sounds like something you would do with a luffa.

About ten days ago I received a letter, actually two letters, from my new insurance adjuster. My old insurance carrier went belly up a year ago. My benefits were picked up by CIGA which is a company in California that protects people with ongoing medical, like me. For a year everything was status quo.

In mid June when I took my prescription in to the pharmacy it was not approved. The following day I received a phone call from my "new" insurance adjuster. She said a lot of things that just didn't make sense. Wanda and I were wondering if she had the correct file and was maybe talking to the wrong person? She did approve my medication and I thought everything was back on track.

The first week of July I got a demand letter from this insurance agent. Actually I got two letters in two separate envelopes that were exactly the same. My current doctor was not on their approved providers list. I had to switch to one who was. Five of the doctor's on the list are in the same group practice as mine. I am supposed to pick a new doc within thirty days. I thought this would be done at my appointment this morning.

I went to my 8:20 AM appointment and my doctor was not in. A nurse practitioner gave me my prescriptions. I was not able to make any of the needed changes. I left the office with the understanding that "someone would call me at the beginning of the week."

When I got home I sent a follow up e-mail to the doctors office. I called the insurance adjuster to update her. Here is how things stand, now.

Those two letters the adjuster sent me, remember? One of those should have gone to my doctors office, and since it did not, nothing on their end has been done.

I'm waiting to talk to my current doctor and get his recommendation for the change of care. The insurance adjuster is waiting for me to pick a new doctor. The office staff is waiting for me to call my adjuster so she can send them an authorization for treatment. Oh, and before anything happens they need a copy of the letter, the letter I got two of. The letter I had in the car this morning that I didn't give to the doctor who wasn't there.

And, I'm in the middle of all of this.

I'm sorry to run on about this crap. I think you read the blog to get a lift.

I was a nurse. I worked for a time as a case manager. I can't imagine going through this without a working knowledge of the system. System? That's a good one. Whatever system this is, it's broken.
