The more things change.......

The more they stay the same......Jill has taken her usual place next to my left hand. I think she was hiding under the blanket on the couch a few minutes ago. I was very quiet getting on line and still, she heard me. Anyhow, once again I am trying to type as she licks.

I went back to my post of 12-21-10. At the time I was, worried about my brother Fred. Getting screwed out of the "bring your cup save a dime" at Starbucks (they did make it right after a fuss). Forgetting the birthday of my friend Mark. And, writing about the movies to watch on Turner Classic the following day, The Thin Man Series.

Today I'm no longer worried about my brother Fred's physical health. Starbucks has been getting my drinks right. I remembered to wish my friend a Happy Birthday (on his Face Book page). And, tomorrow starting at 5 o'clock eastern, 8 pacific, all six Thin Man films will be shown on TCM. If you missed these delightful films last year you have another opportunity tomorrow.

As I'm sure you all know, Wanda works Monday through Thursday. Last week end I noticed an interesting habit I've developed over the last six months or so, sleeping. I don't mean go to bed at night and sleep for seven hours. I'm talking about naps.

I very rarely nap on her work days, however, I fall asleep at the drop of a hat when Wanda is home. It's usually an hour or two but it's always deep and always refreshing. I've come to the conclusion I do this because I feel secure when she is here.

If the phone rings or someone knocks on the door. If one of the cats wants food or the toilet over flows, I know Wanda will handle it.

I can't wait until she retires.

Tomorrow is my birthday. I've been thinking about what it was like when I came into the world, in 1948. I did a little research and found I share a birthday with an ex ballplayer, Steve Garvey. He and I were born same day, same year. Also, sharing the same day but younger is Ralph Fiennis the actor who, among other roles, was Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter series.

The best thing I can say about my birthday is the days start getting longer. At 11PM tonight we can celebrate the winter solstice. Tomorrow the sun will shine a few more minutes. I think that's something to smile about.

I never thought I would get to this age. Remember, I grew up in the "anyone over 30 is old" days. Now I say HA, HA HA.....sort of like Diane Keaton in "Annie Hall." I eat the right foods, try to exercise five times a week. I keep mentally stimulated so my brain stays sharp. I really and truly feel great and that's something else to smile about.

Now, if I can find my keys and the shopping list I think I will go to Safeway, or was that Winco?
