Depending on how you count events, this is either the Seventh Nevada City Week End, or, the Sixth Annual Nevada City Week End.
Our first year here with the cruise gang was 2005. Wanda and I came to the Outside Inn with Marilyn and Pat, John and Teresa and Sharon, their daughter. Now, we are back again in 2011. The Outside Inn has some new rooms, our gang has grown and the week ends are longer. Over the next four days we expect a few dozen, if not more, people. I'll add information daily.
The office staff at the motel refer to us as "The Mad Hatter" group. We have taken group pictures wearing, hats. Or, "The Boa Broads" which leaves out the guys as none of us would wear boa's. Whatever the name we have a terrific time.
Today we expect Andi and Wil.
Wanda and I left around eight thirty this morning. Nevada City is a two and a half hour drive with no stops, we stopped, twice. There is a great produce market in Dixon that was stop number one. We bought cherries, apples, bananas and blueberries then hit the road.
We stopped for break number two almost to Grass Valley. I needed coffee.
There are twelve rooms, a one bedroom cabin and a two bedroom cottage on the grounds. This is an old motor court completely updated. All the rooms have unique themes (in good taste). We stay in the Paddlers Suite, a one bedroom with a kitchen. The walls are knotty pine with lots of canoe and white water rafting type pictures and decor. Wanda and I have stayed in this room six of the seven years here.
We arrived just after eleven which is check out time. Of course one of the few rooms occupied last night was ours. I should not complain because, after all, three is check-in time. But, I know you all expect a little bitch and moan from me. OK, it's eleven ten, why are you still loading your car people? I need to say this, men, if you have gray hair a long pony tail is not attractive. It does not make you younger, especially if you are balding.
The staff here are very friendly and are already cleaning our room. For now we're setting up the picnic area and hanging out.
Yesterday, late afternoon we started getting organized.
I wanted to bring one of our gravity chairs to Nevada City. The picture on the blog was taken on one, here, last year. They are very comfortable, we had two on our backyard patio. I went out and got one of the chairs.
Taking it to the garage I leaned the chair against the kitchen counter. Wanda asked me if I checked it for spiders, I said I had. I put the chair in the garage came back in the kitchen and spotted an earwig, then three more. I took off my shoe and became "earwig terminator." Wanda said, "I think we should look at that chair in the garage, NOW!!"
Wanda ran into the garage, lifted the chair and smacked it on the floor. About two dozen earwigs dropped out of the damn thing. We were both doing a Mexican Hat-Tap Dance combo stomping on all of them. I'm sure we would have scored a 10 on "Dancing With The Stars." All in all we probably squashed thirty of the things. As soon as we're home we will spray and put earwig bait out. We don't like to use chemicals but we really hate these things.
Earwigs.......if you must see them here you go.
By the way, the gravity chair didn't make it here.
