Sunday Funday.......

The Christopher Guest film, "A Mighty Wind" is a very, very funny spoof on folk music of the 60's. The creative talent behind this film also produced, "Best In Show" "Spinal Tap" and "Waiting For Guffman" to name a few. One of the the ensemble group is Jennifer Coolidge a great character actor. In one screen she is sitting with Larry Miller. Describing their  business relationship she said, "It's like we have one brain between us."

Often, Wanda and I have "one brain between us." We both think of the same thing at the same time. She says exactly what just popped into my head. We call it, "Brain Sucking."

First thing this morning we decided to brave the daily gas price increase and go up to Costco. Gas was $4.10 a gallon. The first thing we brain sucked was washing the car. It was pretty dirty so maybe that's not surprising. But, the Mr. Coffee? I was thinking about cleaning the machine when Wanda said, "Have you cleaned Mr. Coffee recently?" Then, as I was thinking about baked goods she said, "Let's stop at the downtown bakery."

We have never gone out of our way to stop and get baked goods. OK, maybe just a few times. However, there was no real basis for thinking about going on a Sunday morning.

There are so many things we both enjoy the "brain thing" is no surprise.

Friday, the newest Harry Potter DVD went on sale. We got our copy fifteen minutes after the store opened. Friday evening we watched the movie, then again Saturday. We thoroughly enjoy the Potter series, movies and books. The "Lord Of The Rings" trilogy, "Narnia," the Pixar and Dreamworks animated movies, even Wallace and Grommet. Does this mean we are immature and easily entertained? I like to think we are well rounded.

The Harry Potter series last film will be released this July. Ten years have passed since the first movie of the franchise, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." The original title, the one used in England is "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone."  It was changed to accommodate the American reader. Sorcerer is more appealing and familiar to the young readers on this side of the pond.

Almost forgot, I received a couple of e mails from the older cousins. The lady in the picture with me and grandma is my great-grandmother Eva. Cousins Lynne and Adele told me a few things about her. She lived to the ripe, maybe not the greatest word choice, old age of 100 and never needed glasses. She never needed but often wore glasses. Aunt Lee told me Eva wore clear, or prop, glasses when out on her porch knitting. She was concerned that a neighbor seeing her, sans glasses, would get jealous and put a "Hex" on her eyes. Hell, I'm worried about the barking dog next door.

Superstitions, do you have any?

Wanda just said, "I was going to do something and now can't remember what I was going to do." She was talking to herself but since she's two feet away I heard her. Remember when talking to yourself was considered a form of nuttiness? Now it generally means you have a Blue tooth ear thingy. I know there are many jokes about this but it really did happen to me. Last week I went into the men's room at Home Depot. A guy was in one of the stalls talking on his cell phone. That truly gave me the creeps.

I happen to have a couple of .39 cents a pound cantaloupe to, what? I'm sure there is a word for, I'm going to cut the melon in half, scoop out the seeds, cut each half into four sections, trim off the rinds and cut the clean sections into pieces. I just can't think of it right now. Anyway, that's what I'm going to do.

Yesterday morning we went to the local grocery store. We wanted to pick up the melons, we also needed milk, bread and yogurt. We came home with two bags full of stuff, spent thirty nine bucks. Still, it was a deal on the cantaloupe. I hope they are worth it.
