I know it's probably just me....I was taking some notes this morning and wrote, "I Googled the information I had".....and it suddenly occurred to me it sounds like something a baby does in his diapers. "Oh, I guess I had better change the baby, he Googled in his pants."
When our grandson Nick was still Googling I stayed with him one day a week. I did this while we progressed to soft food and tippy cups. On one of my visits I thought a craft day would be nice, paper mache heads maybe. It took a long time to get the supplies together, paper, paste and various tools. The only thing we made was a very large mess. We had fun making it, and, cleaning it up.
I knew very early on Nick would be the kind of a kid that could take things apart and put them back together. Whenever I do that, even now, I always have a few leftovers. It's a little unnerving, not knowing where they go and what they're for. I knew Nick was not going to have that problem.
One morning I dozed off while watching "Sesame Street." I only slept for thirty minutes. In toddler time that's like a whole day. Nick didn't want to nap, he got up and out of bed. He went into the front bathroom, opened most of the liquid soaps and body lotion. Then, he poured the contents into the toilet. At first I was a little angry but it did look beautiful. All those swirly colors and textures. Sort of reminded me of my "Hippie Days."
Nick is now 15 going on older than that. He still loves to take things apart. I don't think he's done any toilet art in a long, long time.
Saturday I ended the blog entry with Uncle Harry and his three wives. I'll continue today with Dorothy, my mother. She and Irving were married in 1930. Eventually they had three boys, Fredrick Boris, Allen Boy, and Charles Dennis. We were born in 1934, 1938 and 1948. I have no idea what was going on between 1938 and 1948. It seems a long time to go between kids.
Fredrick Boris was born, Boris Fredrick. He legally changed it when he was of age. Allen didn't have a middle name, I never understood why. How hard was it to come up with a name? There are aristocratic families with several names and you could count Juniors and The Seconds as names too. But, the norm is a first, middles, and last. I really think Allen got screwed. As a kid he was called Alley Boy and considered the Boy as his middle name. And there was me, Charles Dennis.
My parents were divorced when I was six years old. They were headed that way a number of years before they officially separated. Most of the family historians are gone now, which is a shame, I know there are some juicy secrets that will never be told. One of them is my half joking, half serious feeling I may only be a half brother to Fred, and Allen.
This is Dorothy and Irving in 1930. I think they both look pretty cool. Irv has his hat jauntily tilted and Dorothy looks like a flapper.
BEIJING - Chopped cardboard, softened with an industrial chemical and flavored with fatty pork and powdered seasoning, is a main ingredient in batches of steamed buns sold in one Beijing neighborhood, state television said.
Nothing says lovin' like something from the oven, and cardboard says it best. I don't think anyone should complain about this, it is roughage. "Oh honey, please pass the fatty pork and some paste, my pork bun is falling apart."
I did a little grocery shopping this morning. Among other things I picked up some carrots and zucchini. I love the zucchini bread Wanda bakes. I am also a big fan of carrot cake. Why is one a bread and the other a cake?
She said, "Ferdinand the Bull."
He heard, "Bird Man of Wool."
She said, "It was icy this morning and our bricks are still damp."
He heard, "It was nice this morning and our birds are damned."
She said, "I was going to wash the steaks and never did."
He heard, "I was going to watch skateboarding and never did."
She said, "Did you talk to Fred."
He heard, "Do you have the bread?"
I know lots of folks are big fans of "Dancing With The Stars." Have you ever noticed how much dance and food have in common? You can dance the Salsa or dip chips in it. The Meringue is a dance and also stuff on pies or cookies. Tango, also a dance and the orange powder that went into space. The Paso Doble is a dance style and what you do in a bar.
Hey, bar tender, pass me that double Jack Daniels.
