I'm not sure where the last couple of days have gone?
I had my bi-yearly (I think that means twice a year) doc appointment Friday morning. He said I was doing fine and twenty pounds down from last year. That's not as much as I would like but I'll take it. Wanda and I did all of our weekly grocery shopping and other stops yesterday as well. Today was supposed to be a "work around the house day."
We were looking at speaker stands for the rear surround sound speakers. I was floored, between $150 and $200 for a couple of hunks of metal? I happened to take a look at the cat scratching post and realized we could easily make a couple of stands, and we did.
We have (had) a real nice lumberyard here in town, Piedmont Lumber. It was the kind of a place that sold real good grade stuff, had helpful workers, cut your wood for a very reasonable price and loaded it for you. We went over there this morning, it was empty, closed, gone, finished, fenito, not there. The guy at Home Depot told us it's been closed about six months. The other area store too, it's sad. The place had probably been around fifty years.
We got our supplies, came home and built a couple of speaker stands. Total cost, with the stain for the wood, $32.12. Wanda did her usual help stuff. I was trying to figure out how to center the whole thing and not doing a good job of it. She suggested I mark the center of the shelf (easy) mark the center of the post (upright, also easy) drill a hole in both and line up a nail or screw. She said "like putting a puzzle together." I don't know if you can get the gist of this but she sure did help. Then I started to stain them, what a mess.
I wrote something on Face Book a while ago. It was about a long "block." I was using it in the context of a neighborhood street, like, around the block. Do kids even know what I am referring to? I grew up in a city, where the street were straight and ran perpendicular and parallel to one another, You could "go around the block" and would make four left, or right, depending on the direction, turns.
I think our kitty Casper is going to be leaving us soon. She is at least 16, maybe older. These last couple of days she has been sleeping on our bed which is something she never does. It's funny how they have a way of telling us when things are wrong.
I hope I didn't bore you today, nothing really funny or particularly interesting. I wanted to say hello. So, hello. Appreciate all you have it really is special.
