Fred's surgeon , Dr. Mario Villalba was just in to talk with him. He will be having another procedure to irrigate the abdomen on Sunday. Dr. told me that just prior to all of this when Fred had the bleed, he was infused with 14 units of blood. That is a lot of blood. A large problem with something like this is a compromised immune system which is just what happened. The doc said that it's going to be six months before they could talk about a reversal of the illiostomy. He also wants to see some weight loss and it looks like Fred will be on the tube feeding for some time:

I know someone may want more info (Neil) so the link above has more than necessary. As Denzel Washington said to Tom Hanks in the movie Philadelphia, "tell me like I am a five year old" The bowels are inflamed so no food. Long term nutrition through an IV line isn't 100% effective and also can lead to infections. The tube he has now will be much better.
Today was a day at the spa as his nurses spent about 45 minutes cleaning him up. Tomorrow I'll give him my version of an Irving the Barber shave and try not to cut his throat.
Darlene Fink just stopped in, we're so lucky she got involved.
I'll probably stick around until 5:30 or so then try to find my way back to my friends place. By the way, they bought a new house about six months ago and I have my own "wing."
