Every day I say a thank you for the financial position we are in. Yes, I'm sure there will always be things we would like to have. No, I can't really think of anything we can't live without. The people I worry about are kids like Rebecca and Tim as well as Grandson Nick. I wonder how they will fare in the coming years.
A few months ago I was talking to my cousin Lynne and I said something about what a terrible time to bring kids into the world. She reminded me our parents said the same thing about those of us born during or soon after WWII.
I grew up ducking under school desks for air raid drills. At night whenever I heard a loud whistle I was sure the bombs would be next. I grew up worrying about things falling. Kids today have got to wonder (and worry) about things going up.
I went to Safeway this morning. One pound of coffee @ $7.99 Two Gallons Non Fat Milk @ $7.98 Five Bananas @ $1.24 Two Fuji Apples @ $2.15 Two Avocados @ $3.00 Two 6oz. Berries (raspberries + blueberries) @ $4.99. I also picked up a 12 pack of Danactive Yogurt and a bag of cookies......Oh come on, give me a break, every so often I need a cookie. I spent $33.95. The day before yesterday I needed gas and put 40 bucks in the tank.
I realize shopping at Safeway may not be the best deal around, but, it's our local store. I could have gone to a couple other places and saved a few bucks, maybe. I did drop almost $75.00 on necessities.
Milk is 4 bucks a gallon, gas is 4 bucks a gallon an apple is a dollar an avocado a buck and a half. It may be a good time to buy a horse and a cow and plant some fruit trees.
The other day I had to call an 800 number for some information. The first five minute menu told me all the ways I could NOT get the info I needed. When I finally went into the correct menu I heard "Your call is important to us and should be answered in approximately *$##@ minutes.".......WHAT? I didn't hear what you said recorder, was that FIVE or FIFTY-FIVE minutes?
At this point I didn't want to hang up so I wrote down the time. I figured if five minutes passed I would have a long wait. I put the speaker on and started doing something else. Several minutes passed when I got another message. "Your call is important to us. Please do not hang up or you will lose your place in line." "You are in Que: number one hundred and forty one."
ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY ONE? Oh well, I have until the 29th to get this info. The next time I call I'll pack a lunch.
She said, "We have no coupons to worry about."
He heard, We have no croutons to worry about.
It's good to know there's at least one thing I don't need to worry about.
