Cantaloupe? Now I can't eat cantaloupe? I love melon and have gotten pretty good at choosing the ripe ones. News today that a farm in Colorado was shipping tainted melons. Obviously, the grower didn't know his fruit was killing some and making others ill. It's bad enough I worry about chicken and beef. I think we should plant a garden next year.
Excuse me a second........WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME? Am I so afraid I will miss something important I must answer the phone? It's not as if someone is going to call and offer me an all expense paid trip for two to Tahiti. We have caller ID and I still answer the damn telephone. Sorry, I didn't mean to rant. It was someone collecting for a "very worthwhile" cause. I don't make financial commitments over the phone and I feel terrible when I hang up on them.
Last night was the most exciting baseball I have ever seen. The final day of the baseball season with two teams in each league tied for the final playoff spot. Two of the games went into extra innings. Two of the games were won in the final inning for the home team, called a "walk off." Tampa Bay Rays beat the Yankees in the 12th inning 8-7. At one point late in the game the Rays were behind 7-0. Baltimore beat Boston 4-3 after trailing 3-2 going into it's final at bat.
The win for the Rays and a Boston loss gave the final playoff spot in the American League to Tampa Bay.
It's a happy day for some fans and a dismal day for others. On September 1st. Boston had a 9 game lead over Tampa Bay. Over the course of the month Boston only won 7 games while Tampa Bay won 16. In the National League Atlanta had a large lead at the start of the month but had just 8 victories while St. Louis had 16. It seems that the teams that won last night were the teams that should be advancing.
The Philadelphia Phillies came from a run down to beat the Atlanta Braves 4-3. This game went to the 13th inning. The loss by Atlanta and an 8-0 victory for St. Louis over Houston meant a playoff spot for the St. Louis Cardinals.
The first playoff round will be the Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers in the American League. St. Louis vs. Philadelphia and Arizona vs. Milwaukee in the National League. The best 3 of 5 game series begins this Friday. The final World Series game, if it goes all seven, will be on October 27th. Bring out the coats, gloves, and scarves, here come "The Boy's Of Summer."
Last night three games were won by teams that came from behind. The great Yogi Berra (the ballplayer not the picnic guy that hangs out in Jellystone) said, "It Ain't Over Till It's Over." I don't want to sound "preachy" but how about, it's never too late to try, anything. Except this:
A man who scrubbed his pickup truck in the nude at a Massachusetts car wash has been sentenced to a year of probation.
He plead guilty on Monday to open and gross conduct for being naked at Economy Car Wash in North Attleborough on May 31.
The Sun Chronicle reports that a woman vacuuming her vehicle at the business called police after she saw the 65-year-old man in the nude.
Police say the man was wearing shorts by the time they arrived at the scene and denied doing anything wrong.
A judge also ordered him to stay away from the car wash and the witness and to continue counseling. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
..........the guy said his plumbing at home was bad and all he was trying to do was save a few bucks and shower while he washed the truck. "It's cheaper than calling a plumber," he said. The woman who called the police was overheard saying, "OK, a little butt crack is one thing but this was ridiculous."
Have a wonderful day today and tomorrow. I'll be back Monday.
