I really, really miss the sound of the garbage trucks. I guess I will be able to check them out tomorrow. Friday is trash day here, whoopee.
I need to be brief, while I have a few minutes I am doing this and I want to jump in the shower.
Today is day 1 at home. It's only 11:45AM but already feels like a full day.
I woke around 6 this morning to a landscape of snow, everywhere. I guess this is just a "dusting" with more to come. Now I know why I moved away in 1972. Given a choice who needs this.
Our day started with a few nursing maintenance things. I was surprised at how easy it was. I left Fred breathing and guess that's the most important thing. I actually made a couple of rookie mistakes but they were easily rectified.
Working on just a single cup of lousy coffee I needed to get out and over to the closet "real" coffee place. There is a chain here, Carabu Coffee, I guess it started in Alaska and fit right in with all the white laying around. I walked in and said, "My brother just got out of the hospital and I am taking care of him." (thinking the would have pity and not charge me) "I need something very large, very hot, and very caffeinated." I got my triple espresso with steamed milk, paid, and got back to the house.
I got Fred breakfast and joined him, drinking my coffee in quiet repose. After he finished I went downstairs to do the dishes, went down the second flight of stairs to get some clean clothes, walked into the furnace, washer and dryer area and stepped in a very large, very cold puddle of water. I thought it wise to postpone the shower since I thought the hot water heater was leaking.
I am happy to say it was only the filter on the humidifier which was cleaned and serviced a few minutes ago. We were able to get one of his contacts over here within thirty minutes. Now the shower is looking like it may happen. Ya, just as soon as I get a call from the visiting nurse due here today. I have a to-do list with eight things on it and don't want to miss their call. I'm walking around with a cordless phone AND a cell phone in my pockets, no wonder I need a belt.
I set his first follow up doc appointment with his regular primary physician this Monday at 10AM. I think we will let him comment and decide on the other 11 that want to see him.
So, for now, we have made it to lunch of day 1. I can't say what the rest of the day will bring.
Chuck
