11-2-2010 Don't forget Harry Potter

Hi family,
Just got Fred back in bed after sitting up in chair for the second time today. If you have never had the misfortune to spend time in the hospital you probably don't know what a task just sitting up can be. This time it was for slightly over an hour. Fred thought it might pass some time if I gave him a shave so that we did. While we were in the neighborhood I gave him a sort of haircut. I'm thinking if he falls asleep the next time maybe I will shave his head. I think that would look pretty cool.

Tell you the truth here, it's over three weeks now, I think he had a jello maybe 10 days ago. He is starting to get that "sunken check" look. I'm not referring to part of his behind. It comes with the territory but sure makes him look more ill then I think he is. I guess I bring this up for a couple of reasons. Don't be surprised if and when you see him. Also, please don't run in the room yelling "SMILE" while pointing the digital camera at him.

We had a clergy person in today. Last week Tammy asked if Fred might want to talk to a Rabbi, he didn't. I figured he wouldn't want to be awakened to talk to the clergyman. I also figured the man was here with nothing to do. I'm thinking maybe a casino tonight so I asked him to put in a good word for me. May as well take advantage of the opportunity.

Fred was up twice today for a total of about two and a half hours. He will be given a little more to do tomorrow. Since he will be sleeping for a while and it's 4:30 I am going to take off, maybe beat some traffic. I'll talk to you all tomorrow.

Oh, almost forgot. I spent some time with the Care Manager today. She assess the patients and works with discharge planning in placement of the folks from the critical care unit. The progression would be, here to a floor then on to in house rehab. No point in discussing the differences until we see what the next week brings.

Until then, my love,
Chuck
